Wheelhouse is incredible. I’d never worked out before when I joined 1.5 years ago and they were so good at teaching me how to do everything. They were patient and knew how to modify workouts to match my ability and knowledge. The community here is unmatched, everyone remembers your name and the coaches genuinely care about you AND your progress. They do a lot as a community outside of the gym too, so you’ll have plenty of opportunities to connect with your classmates.Regardless of if you’ve never worked out a day in your life or if you’re basically a semi-professional gym rat, you’ll have a place here and a team to push you and teach you.

I was a member of Wheelhouse Academy for 2 years before moving away for work, and I will miss my gym family tremendously. Entering Wheelhouse, I had only been a member of your normal bodybuilding gyms like Gold’s and others. I joined Wheelhouse on a whim as I was getting bored and very unmotivated. I was also going through a stint of negative self-image at the time, which only contributed to the lack of motivation. The first coach I met was Faye, who was warm and welcoming beyond belief. This woman is more than a ray of sunshine, she’s the entire sun. It takes someone like her to keep anyone motivated at a 5:30am conditioning class. On top of being knowledgeable and understanding of each aspect of the workouts, Faye was able to cater each workout to anyones’ individual capability to make sure you got the best workout in you could. She took time to get to know not only you as an athlete, but also as an individual if you allowed. It didn’t matter what outside issues I came to her classes with, her presence and sound life advice were able to help me keep life’s obstacles in perspective. The next coach I met was Luan. The first time I met Luan, he sat with me individually to talk about what my personal fitness goals were. I had never thought about what my fitness goals were before he asked me, so I didn’t really know what they were. It was a good way to get me thinking about why I exercise and give me something to work toward to help get my motivation back, and oh did it work. I fully committed to the Wheelhouse workout plans and made it a consistent part of my daily schedule. I even got some help from both Faye and Luan on restructuring my diet plan to help fuel my body properly. Next thing I knew (in about 10-12 months time), I’d gained 15 pounds of muscle and was lifting heavier than I ever had. Talk about motivation! I’d recommend Wheelhouse Academy to anyone, from novice to seasoned professional. You’ll find consistent and achievable challenges in the workouts, a welcoming group of coaches, and an atmosphere of kind motivation. Joining Wheelhouse Academy is one of the best health and fitness decisions I’ve ever made, and I am sad to have to leave my Wheelhouse team.

This is a great gym with an awesome community atmosphere. The workouts are challenging and the coaches are kind, helpful, and personable. You can choose from Olympic lifting, powerlifting, or CrossFit style workouts. All 3 are great options and well thought out.

I spent 8 months at the academy and the thing I loved most was how quickly I adapted to the people there. It usually takes a few months for me to get used to working out with new people, but I was able to make friends with the trainers and peers my first day. I was excited each day I went because I knew I was going to be able to get a good sweat and have fun. I was so sad when I had to move and it was primarily because I had to leave a community I learned to love so much.

Wheelhouse was my first experience at a gym of its type with instructor-led classes, olympic lifting options, and other activities and I would absolutely recommend it to anyone whether they have experience at gyms like these or are first-timers like myself. They offer classes that fit any type of workout you're interested in and I was easily able to mix up my routine to keep every session interesting and challenging. The staff and owner are great to work with and consistently showed they value their members more than anything else.

super friendly and positive bunch of people. for me at least WH was a much more weight/strength focused place than other class-based crosstraining gyms, but even as a relative slouch and someone who needed a little more technique guidance than some of the regulars, i never felt out of place. minimal frills but awesome people, community, and training.

I spent 2 months in Birmingham and couldn't have chosen a better gym! Personal and professional approach of the founder and the trainers. They accepted me very quickly, there is very family and friendly atmosphere. I already remember the Wheelhouse fondly and miss it very much. The place where I felt at home, even though I was in a foreign city.

Great gym with great instructors! The instructors take time to know you and your skill level. They help scale the workout while still pushing you! Hope to rejoin after some scheduling conflicts work themselves out.
