Gerald Ratner Athletics Center, located at the University of Chicago, offers an extensive range of modern equipment and facilities. It's free for UChicago students and features treadmills, cycling, weightlifting, and world-class pool facilities. Friendly staff and a variety of fitness classes like Zumba and yoga enhance the experience. However, it can get crowded, and the locker rental prices are high. Non-students and non-employees cannot access the facilities, and the gym hours could start earlier to accommodate more users.
Despite these drawbacks, the state-of-the-art facilities, cleanliness, and supportive environment make it a highly recommended gym for those eligible to use the services.

Awesome facilities provided by the university. Lots of Treadmills cycling and weightlifting equipment are available here for everyone. Swimming training facilities are good. Only the issue is after COVID there is no locker facilities.

A gym should open before 7 am— there’s always a long line of people trying to cram a workout in before work and class. For a state of the art facility and one of the best gyms I’ve ever been to (only outranked by the East Bank Club), whoever runs this gym must not realize some people like to exercise in the morning >:(

Quite new equipments, everything is super clean. Very good locker rooms, but the prices to rent a locker are absurd

If you're not a student/employee they won't let you in, no exceptions. They don't sell guest passes. I wish they could write something on their website

It's not the biggest or the fanciest gym, and can occasionally get a bit crowded, but it has a nice array of equipment and Brian is very friendly and helpful.

Decent gym. Discounts for certain things so inquire if you are affiliated with the university in some capacity. Work out area for weights is relatively small. Pool is world class and courts are usually available for basketball and other things.

My place to go for gym. A lot of treadmill selections, indoor swimming pool, weight lifting, indoor basket ball, some fun classes like, zumba, dance, yoga, etc. You can join as member or any other club it has. You can go very early as it open at 6 am and bring all the stuff, like clothes to take shower there before your class/work start. Happy sweating!
