TRC Durham is good. I hadn't been on the area since it's was built. But it's a solid addition to the TRC family. It has plenty of bouldering. Maybe a little less top roping than I'd like but a good variety of routes and walls. I wish they had autobelays on routes other than the short walls. I like to use the autobelays as a warmup. Great place to climb!

I've been a member at TRC for a bit more than a year now and go to the Durham gym way more than the others because it's closest. To preface this review, I'm a solidly intermediate climber (V5 max at this gym) and I only boulder. Unfortunately as I've been getting better at climbing my experience at this gym has been continually getting worse to the point that it ends up being more frustrating than satisfying to do the more challenging routes.Pros (Facilities, Member Perks):The facilities at TRC are really nice. Besides the climbing area there's also a more traditional exercise room, cardio and yoga rooms, a sizeable lounge, and a couple shower rooms. Members get access to a variety of different classes as well as access to the other 4+ TRCs out there.Cons (Climbing Experience, Pricing):First, the pricing here is insane. $95/month for a climbing gym is normal and expected but the $75 "initiation fee" is a scam. I know the fee is to make people get daily/punch passes instead of just doing a short-term membership but at first glance it just makes the gym seem greedy. By far my biggest complaint about this gym though is the absolutely horrible routesetting, which is usually at least frustrating and often even dangerous with the height and roughness of the walls here. Around the V2 range the setters start to add annoying crimps and backwards hold that don't really enhance the routes at that level, they're just like a tricky "haha gotcha!" type thing that should be replaced with something actually technical. More often than not like half the difficulty of a route will just be from the setters deciding the very last hold and only that hold has to be a crimp or sloper for some reason, and you have to decide if it's worth the injury if you fall when you go for it. I wish the different gyms each had different routesetters because then these complaints might be localized to only one gym, but you can't really avoid it cause it's the same setters at all of them (except Richmond and Fayetteville) with Morrisville being the least annoying since the wall is shorter and smoother.Overall I'm pretty disappointed with this gym but it's really the only option in the area so I go anyways. I understand that some of the criticisms I gave can't be changed, like the walls themselves, but better routesetting could really transform the way many people experience this gym for the better.

Always a good time. Their membership has a ton of perks like guest passes and free classes. The climbing walls are great quality. The cardio room is clean. The fitness classes are always fun and challenging.

I’ve been with your gym since it opened. A few things have gone downhill but I’m happy to change review rating once they improve.1. Please clean more. It’s pretty gross in there. Membership is too high for a dirty facility. I used to see it cleaned a few times a week. What happened?2. Please hold camp counselors responsible for camp kids. I should not have kids climbing under me. I’m waiting for a hurt kid and a lawsuit.3. The weight room is unusable during the hours of back to back fitness classes in the morning. At a regular gym you can switch out but the classes take over for hours straight. This isn’t new but I really wish there was a rack or two reserved for people who can’t do the classes.4. Limited yoga offerings. Nothing M, W, F before 9am :( I was hoping this would pick up after you all bounced back from the construction. Kinda a wishlist item. I now pay for yoga elsewhere. The last two items are me expecting too much? It’s fair that climbing is top priority and the weight area and yoga are nice to haves. But the first two items are important and I hope they’ll be addressed.

Great climbing gym with well-equipped fitness facilities. Super friendly staff too! They have a lot of climbing space and reset pretty frequently, so there's always tons to climb. It's also pretty representative of what you'd find outdoors which is really nice. I only have 2 issues, one minor and one major.- Minor: on a somewhat frequent basis, no staff member is there to open the gym on time. The gym will open 30+ minutes late. Not the biggest issue but it does happen often enough.- Major: very unsafe climbing practices and poor climbing etiquette when the gym gets really busy. This is really frustrating and concerning. People walking directly underneath climbers on the wall, crowding the wall, sitting in front of the wall, not being aware of interfering with someone who is already on the wall, kids running around making it difficult to climb safely. I'd really like to be able to enjoy bouldering when it's busy, but I've found that it's just not possible.Overall a wonderful place but definite room for improvement.

My first climbing gym experience over a year ago and an amazing place to get started. Helpful staff, good culture and really good route setting for everyone.Pros: new top rope and lead wall area is incredible. Bouldering area is large and always has a great mix of styles. Friendly staff, fair pricing, and even packed it doesn’t feel too bad.Cons: lack of auto belay. Understandable for their safety concerns but still disappointing when you don’t always have a belay partner. gym area is small with little variety. Just a few benches and generally hard to get a workout in if more than 2-3 others are in there. Bummed to rarely utilize it. Also the classes can be hit or miss.

The staff was super friendly and helpful. The entire site was clean and well kept. It didn't smell terrible like the Raleigh location. The bathrooms were very nice and well kept as well. There is a large variety of walls here as well, including 47ft walls.

Awesome climbing gym, definitely the biggest that I have been to!Rating is really well done, the setting provides plenty of variety for the new and veteran climber alike.Be aware that the club team practices in the evenings and it’s a lot of kids. Not a major issue, there’s just a lot of kids!Only complaint is they are nearly 30-mins away. I’m about to sell the house I bought last week so I can move closer!

The Durham location now has ropes and a full gym. Climbing here is always a pleasure, with huge bouldering space with excellent range of problems up to V10. Lead wall has full cave and brand new holds. This is the premier gym of the Triangle area.
