Great coach! Steven takes us through the workout step by step so even beginners can do the class. He even took time at the end of the workout to help with my questions on correct form. I look forward to his classes.

UPDATE 3/14/2023: Music+bass levels are disruptive again, at 9:30PM. We left a voicemail. Earplugs aren’t helpful because the bass in the music is vibrating our windows. I’m not exaggerating.I’m not convinced in Portside Fitness’ sincerity to resolve the noise issue if no one is available…or willing…to take calls during nighttime classes.Technology has come along way. Please figure out a way to use Bluetooth headphones after 6PM so that children, the infirm, and the elderly among us in the neighborhood can enjoy their evenings and later sleep peacefully.*****Neighborhood nightmare. Portside Fitness blasts music SO LOUDLY that it wakes us up…and we live around the corner and down the street. Not next door…several houses away. The music BLARES at 5am…at 9pm…the bass vibrates our windows. Sleep is impossible even with earplugs. We’ve called to ask them to please be more considerate of their neighbors, working folks with families, and the next day they just play the music louder. It would be a real shame for a Gulfport business to get widespread negative social media publicity just because they aren’t willing to be decent neighbors. All they have to do is keep the music down from 9am-5pm so that people can have peace inside their own homes.

I love Vernon's classes. He is a no nonsense coach who motivates and helps make those little tweaks to form that make all the difference.

Great leadership and coaching throughout the workout. The breakdown of each portion of the power snatch helped tremendously. It was simple, clear and constructive with lots of repetition. Made me think of the Berlinger warm up but BETTER. Vernon has a unique way of specifically coaching each athlete to focus on areas of improvement while keeping the class moving along together.

Allison was very patient with teaching me the moves and helping me with making necessary modifications. She also encourages me to push myself to do more than I believe I can do. She walks around encouraging each person working out in the class. She helped remind me to keep my form and showing me how to correct improper form being used.

I did not know anyone here and it was hard to network with people likeminded until I joined the gym. I thought I knew about nutrition so I didn't seek help and couldn't seem to lose any weight regardless of what I ate. I knew I had to work out but I didn't make it a priority. I've always put other things first like family, job and never really just concentrated on just myself. It was frustrating for me because I couldn't seem to see a difference no matter how hard I worked out. Since I lived alone going out to eat often Was a way of life. It felt like I was just stuck with this overweight body. My self esteem was also pretty low. This time I put myself first. I became the priority. I began to not rely on others to make me feel a certain way...just myself and how I thought about me. I like myself now. Sounds weird but I enjoy my own company. I used to worry so much about what other people think...now I really don't. I've become very particular about the company I keep being only around positive thinking people. Happy people and this has helped me become a happier person myself. I feel better. I look better, and I'm proud of my accomplishments. I don't feel like I'm limited to the things I can do because of my weight...or age for that matter. I'm actually excited to enter the next chapter of my life instead of mourning my past.

Portside has helped me actually enjoy working out. They push me to do my best and to not give up. Someone is always there to answer questions, give advice, and make sure that I am doing things in a safe and correct manner.

We have all been intimidated to step into the world of fitness as beginners. I believe I represent many of us when I say, I wanted to lose weight and get healthy but still wanted to be able to eat what I enjoy and was far from being able to dedicate hours to the gym every day! I knew I needed to be realistic with myself this time around. I had recently returned to the U.S. after being overseas for more than a year. I gained an unhealthy amount of weight (70lbs) in that time and knew I needed to do something about it. The issue is that I tried to diet, exercise, and eat healthier several times during that year and each time would get discouraged and make excuses for giving up within a few days. The truth is, I was being unrealistic and somehow wanted the weight to magically fall off. If only it worked like that!!! 😂. I knew that simply joining a gym and working out by myself wasn’t going to work for me. I needed to find something that was going to hold me accountable so that I could hold myself accountable. Nothing does that like Portside Fitness! When I say it’s like the “Cheers” theme song and everybody knows your name… they do! Not only do the Coaches make you feel welcome, so do the other Members of the gym. The atmosphere is inclusive, and they strive to make it a family environment. Dogs and kids are welcome and I love it! It makes me smile every time I see a dog running around the building with their person! The owner, Sara has really taken the time to make Portside accommodating and a fun place to work out.I’m on my last month of the three-month fitness/nutrition program and I don’t have the words to express how great it’s been. There are moments I wanted to give up and find excuses for not working out but my fitness Coach Tanya refused to let me give up. This program teaches you more than just looking at the number on the scale and that there is a lot more to losing weight than exercise. A huge part of it is mental and until now, I never truly understood it. I believe the most important lesson I learned from this experience is that no one eats a “perfect” diet. It’s normal to splurge on something not-so-good-for-you every now and then. The key is to limit how much of these unhealthy foods you eat and not to feel bad about yourself if you have a treat here and there. It’s not all or nothing. Keep it simple, make small changes, and you will see results. You don’t have to be perfect or hard on yourself. It doesn’t have to be so strict that you get discouraged. Portside Fitness is realistic. They teach you it’s all about finding a balance. If you are looking to have fun, get healthy, and make a few friends along the way, this is the place for you. Thank you to Tanya and Rae for helping navigate my fitness journey!
