I have been training Jiu-jitsu since 1997 and I am a 3rd degree black belt from Rodrigo Medeiros. I have been to many academies all over the world and have seen a wide variety of programs. I had the opportunity of training at Ravlin Jiu-jitsu academy yesterday and the first thing that I noticed was the welcoming atmosphere of the academy. When I came in I did not have my blackbelt on and I noticed that the students in the academy greeted me with a warm smile and introduced themselves kindly. It was very pleasant to feel the welcoming culture their students and staff had to visitors and new comers. The strength and heart of this academy is in Professor Mcfarlane. You can see the care he has for his students both in their technical and physical development. He has a way of figuring out your individual potential and guiding you through your training journey so that you grow into the person that he knows you can become. He will push you but in the end you will become so much more than what you were before you stated. I witnessed many students of different ages working toward that goal of being a better practitioner under his guidance. If you are looking for a welcoming environment with great jiu-jitsu and a dedicated instructor Ravlin Jiu-jitsu is for you!

I went with a friend for the free class. The workout was killer and the skills were great. The techniques were taught with drills that helped you grasp the basic motions on your own, then we slowly worked it with a partner, and finally could use it with full spars at the end. Great teaching, great time! By my own clumsiness, I popped my knee in the last 10 min of class. The staff responded so quickly to the injury in a professional and effective way- I work in the medical field and I was very impressed.

I recently attended a Muay Thai class at Ravlin Martial Arts, and it was absolutely amazing! The instructor was highly skilled and experienced in the art of Muay Thai, and he made sure that everyone in the class was able to learn and execute the techniques properly. What I appreciated most about the class was the sense of community and support. Everyone in the class was friendly and supportive, and the instructor made sure to create a positive and welcoming environment for all students.

Great spot with a very knowledgeable coach who cares about his people! Coach Angelus is very good at breaking down the drills and helping you understand why you’re doing what you’re doing. They do a great job keeping the facility clean too. Overall my experience has been 10/10.

Ravlin offers a tremendous opportunity to learn both Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai. My kids enjoy both practices and have come a long way since they started a few months ago. Professor Angelus and Coach Stacy are incredibly dedicated and always encouraging the kids to bring their best effort, believe in themselves, and excel. In addition to all the precise technical skills taught, there are tons of life lessons about respect, self-control, confidence, resilience and plain old common sense. I was very fortunate to find Ravlin and their special family vibe.

I have been training at Ravlin for 9 months and I can safely say it is one of the best things I have ever done. Since starting training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu I have lost 36lbs, lowered my blood pressure, competed twice!, and made great friends along the way.If you have been thinking about getting into BJJ and you are reading this review, here is your sign, it is 100% worth it.

Post Covid19. The classes have been spaced so there is no overlap with other classes thus minimizing people contact. Matts are being sterilized in between classes. Your temperature is taking upon entering the school.Professor Angelus has over 25 years of martial arts training. He is an extremely gifted instructor that wants to share his knowledge and love of the arts. Coach pushes each student past their own personal comfort zones. Team Ravlin is a diverse team with students of different ages and different walks of life. The higher belts encourage and help the lower belts. I have made so many new friends in my BJJ journey. The teammates go out to eat, go to the movies, hang out outside of the gym...etc. It is a great friendly team environment and I love the camaraderie. I sometimes have to bring my two young daughters to the gym if my wife is not home. My girls do not want to do any sports. When we are live rolling it cracks me up that Coach Angelus is on the sidelines teaching my girls AND my girls are following his instruction. Coach Angelus simply can't NOT teach. It's just who he is. He teaches because he is SO passionate about martial arts and fitness. Ravlin also has kid classes. If you are looking for BJJ or Muai Thai and live in the Bellaire, West University, Medical Center or South Houston then Ravlin Martial Arts and Fitness is what you are looking for. There are no egos and you will be welcomed with open arms no matter your age, size, athletic ability or experience. I have NEVER done anything like BJJ but I just keep showing up. It gets addicting fast. Once you get past the nerves of doing something that is foreign and scary you crave coming to workout with your friends. After every class I am drenched in sweat because I just had an amazing workout. Come train in a safe and friendly atmosphere.
