Edit: I got a message from google asking me if I was still happy with my experience/review I left about a month ago. Weird. But the answer is yes! I edited the review to add a little more.I don’t ever leave reviews but felt compelled to today while reflecting after my yoga class. This may be a long one, so buckle in!I started classes back in Jan 2023 after I was in a car accident at the beginning of 2022. I was unable to walk properly or use my right arm much - I couldn’t even hold a pen to write for more than a minute. Physical therapy was only getting me so far after 10 months and I wanted more mobility and less pain as I was relying more and more on painkillers, and doctors were encouraging me to consider surgery. I had done some yoga in my early 20s - I’m almost 40 now (gulp!) so I decided to try again. I searched for studios that offered a beginner course so that my alignment and injuries could be accounted for and I could re-learn the foundations I had mostly forgotten. This was the only studio I found to offer a beginners series. I let the instructor know I had herniated discs in my neck and back, had regular pain and limited mobility. The beginners series was invaluable for learning correct alignment and making sure I didn’t injure myself or aggravate my herniated discs. The instructor and owner of the studio, Kathryn, was amazing and provided a lot of modifications for the poses. After the beginners series I continued doing 1 class a week, working my way now up to at least 3 classes a week. There are lots of classes available during the mornings and evenings. They even have sunrise classes when I’m fast asleep haha. I attend classes in the evening to account for work (after 5pm).Every instructor was made aware of my injuries and provided modifications when I needed them and encouraged me to try full poses when they felt I was strong enough. When adjusting my posture they would check in if the adjustment worked for my shoulders, hips, etc. If I had any pain. They also encouraged me to use the wide variety of props available at the studio. I really appreciate that they never lose focus on stability in the poses. And that no matter where you are in your yoga practice, everyone there (teacher and students alike) encourage each other to be proud of showing up on our mat. I also love that in the beginning of class most teachers ask us to reflect inwards and there have been some great conversations leading on from those reflections.I am pain free and so much more mobile now. I was reflecting today on how far I have come in 9 months - I was unable to hold a plank in my first class and struggled with Adho Mukha Svanasana (downward dog). Today I am able to hold side planks, do chaturanga dandasana and working on kakasana (crow pose)!Give this studio a try, especially if you’re a “beginner” or “intermediate” looking to improve your practice. The classes are small, the studio is clean and the instructors are a delight. I love chatting to everyone before and after class. It’s a lovely little community and honestly at times when I needed it most it felt like a little hug every time I walked into the studio.

This has been everything I look for in a yoga studio, and then some. The classes are restorative yet strengthening, active yet peaceful. I always leave class feeling fulfilled, and am always encouraging others to attend. The studio is clean, and the owner / instructor is invested in her students. I highly recommend this studio.

Adding this: Please consider joining Eli Moran for strength training classes that are now being offered at The Yoga Institute. I recently went through two cycles of his classes, and I loved knowing my strength was increasing, and Eli made it fun. True inspiration for this 62 year old.Wonderful classes. Great instructors. I would really encourage anyone wanting to learn more or advance in practice to talk to Kathryn about the wonderful opportunities they offer here.

Can’t say enough good things about this studio! Coming from a competitive background learning peace and direction in yoga practice took work, they made this challenge doable! I received incredible guidance, warm welcomes not only from the instructors but the other members by my side. The facility is clean and leaves a warm yet fresh vibe as soon as you walk in. I highly recommend The Yoga Institute to every walk of life. It truly feels like a home that I’m very thankful to find!P.S. the chimes thing they ring at the end of class is LITERALLY the best!

I've been going to the Yoga Institute of Clear Lake since 2015. I LOVE this studio! The instructors are all fantastic and there are a wide variety of classes available at all times of the day. I like that it doesn't have an unfriendly, trendy vibe like a lot if other studios. I'd recommend this studio to anyone who is looking for a friendly group of down to Earth people who love to practice yoga with amazing instructors.
