I've been a member for a year and surveyed the YMCA's all over knoxville. The first time I went to this one was 20 years ago, and the pool is exactly the same--dated and short. However, it is one of only two Y's in town with a dry and steam sauna, the other being the Tennnova up north. The facility may not be new, but it has a great deal of character (especially the yoga space which is great for mobility workouts!), and the folks working there are very nice. If you like a towel for your shower or sauna, you must bring your own, or buy one of theirs for a few dollars. Tennova north has a brand new facility and tower service, which is nice, but they are way out in Powell, so not always as convenient. A perfectly well run and clean facility.

The Downtown Y is insanely maze-like, and that makes it so much more fun. Super motivated people traipsing in and out constantly. I've only attended the Yoga by Becky but it's always been a lot of fun

Great facilities. Variety of classes. Rarely crowded. This is as good as it gets for a reasonable price in the area. Don’t waste your money on Gold Gym.

Overall, this is a pretty good gym. It definitely does not have the newest, most state-of-the-art equipment, but it has enough to get a high-quality workout in. All of the staff I have encountered are extremely nice and helpful; they greet and welcome you as you walk in. Even though the building is very old, the interior is cleaner than you would probably expect. The layout is a bit awkward, as others have mentioned. My main complaint would be that the gym constantly feels like it is over 76°.. you pretty much start sweating as soon as you get moving.

Great amenities and activities for the whole family. Fun safe activities for the kids: Swimming lessons, weight room training, group circuit fitness classes all in a clean, safe, immense, and family friendly environment.

This place is strange it doesn’t have a good flow to it. It has a quiet awkward vibe. Alot of equipment is outdated and looks dirty, I keep having to switch floors for different things and why you guys don’t have a lock on that childcare door I don’t know. I’ve seen multiple kids trying to escape while that poor babysitter struggles. So dangerous and unnecessary. It doesn’t feel modern or inspiring inside like la fitness or other gyms I go to. It feels like a gym for old guys. But you’re the ONLY one around who had kid care sooooo…. Maybe you guys are low on money that’s my assumption

Long time member and former YMCA executive. This branch was where I started my YMCA career teaching water aerobics. 22 years later the torch has been passed to my 15 year old daughter, who now works at this branch. The constant over these years is the Y's mission and commitment to FAMILY🥰 People who I trained are in leadership positions supervising my daughter. This goes to show the culture of the YMCA. ITS THE OLDEST US NON PROFIT.... for a reason. The Y prides itself on taking care of its employees and members. The goal is for everyone to buy into the organization to take RESPONSIBILITY for its existence.

The building is very old BUT, it is so clean, they have everything you need to workout any way you want. They have an attentive staff and are always so friendly! Also, they have an amazing massage therapist there, ask for Sandra Corbitt's information and schedule a post workout massage...you will not be disappointed!
