Located in Vanderbilt University, Vanderbilt Recreation & Wellness Center offers a variety of fitness options including swimming, climbing, tennis, squash, and weightlifting. The facility has friendly staff and provides open hours on weekends. Despite its diverse amenities, the center struggles with outdated equipment and inconsistencies in operational policies, particularly during school breaks and summer periods.
With spaces for group fitness classes and specialized facilities like a track and climbing wall, it's an ideal place for students and staff but might not be suitable for the community members seeking modern equipment and clear policies.

- Track and climbing wall available.
- Open on weekends.

Cons:
- Outdated equipment and machines.
- Inconsistent operational policies.
- Not suitable for non-students due to strict membership policies.

My boyfriend is a graduate student here and I had no problem getting a pass the first time; however, the next day, I went without him and the woman at the front desk was very rude and told me my boyfriend had to be present in order for me to workout there- I have never heard of a gym or wellness center ESPECIALLY at a university that only sells day passes to students. So just keep this in mind if you are not affiliated to Vanderbilt you cannot workout here and you will be treated disrespectfully if you dare ask to buy a pass. Disappointing and strange.

The track is the best part! But the machines are outdated and in need of a deep clean/repair. The free weights and barbells could use some attention too.It would be great if they were open before 12pm on Sunday's but you can’t have everything

Had a great experience watching a track meet between several different colleges and universities that met at Vanderbilt. We went to watch a coach friend of ours who coaches for Ole Miss. Just so you know, you cannot take food into the main area, and will be asked to stay upstairs where there are some chairs and tables that you can look over from. Great updated facility, definitely top-of-the-line! Look forward to your visit here.

Good facility overall. They have most equipment available to all but some equipment is limited to use by those in scheduled classes. Locker rooms are quite outdated and there's no steam room or sauna (that I've seen).

Gym is dated and employees start closing the gym at least 30 mins before closing time, despite the fact that people pay $45/month. Has very few mats for stretching and ab work throughout, rarely even has music playing in work out areas. …

I don't recommend membership if you're not a student. It is too expensive (even the discounted alumni membership) considering the terrible hours during school breaks. The climbing wall is cool, but it closes earlier than the rest.

Very nice gym! Has multiple large spaces with plenty of machines but if you want to do yoga, it's difficult to find a place.

Fantastic resource for students and staff of Vanderbilt. They have a variety of options in regards to work out rooms. They also offer a number of different classes. Great place to work out at a fairly reasonable price for Vanderbilt staff.

It's always been a quality gym with a wide variety of equipment and activities. Pool, climbing wall, tennis and squash courts, weight room, track and more. Awesome place!
