A beautiful club in many respects:the front library is a lost treasure, and the pool is lovely and timeless as well, but the in the evenings the lighting is so low it is disorienting and dangerous in the back and upstairs of the gym. Some of the equipment is packed in too densely in some rooms as to make it uncomfortable and dangerous: I hit my head working out on one machine, and tripped over the metal feet of another in the upstairs rooms. For a gym, where people are handling dangerous and heavy weights, and generally just moving around, this is confusing and disconcerting. At the time of writing this, the second floor was hot compared to the first, and the ceiling in one room was missing without any insulation below the roof.Hopefully these issues will get addressed in time.

Predatory practices. Told them I am quitting do to life obligations. Haven't been in over a year. They are sending me to collections. What do I get for the money they say I owe? Beware

While there are a lot of machines, they're petty spread out. Expect to cater your workout to the layout of this mansion. Otherwise you'll be walking up and down stairs a lot between exercises.Machines are really good although they don't seem to be lubricated or waxed. I've seen cheaper gyms around the country add that nice touch and at $90 a month, I'd hope for equipment that's slightly better taken care of.It has a bunch of amenities which can be really useful.

Well equipped, historic gym that is also fairly well maintained, but brace yourself for all of the rule signs about posted all over. I personally find it both stressful and annoying. And unfortunately, the visual noise of the signage ruins the aesthetic of some of the historic rooms, like the quiet signs posted all over the library. Sure, some rules should be set and enforced, but it's currently too much. Going to the gym feels like I'm being supervised by a crotchety person with nothing better to do than enforce a bunch of fatuous "etiquette" rules.

I like this place. I joined here after a life at CrossFit and box chain gyms and have been very content. The building is beautiful, the staff’s friendly, and all the twists and alcoves add a sweet layer of discovery as you piece together a workout. The only unsettling bit is the photographs of past athletes and presidents — all white, covering almost every wall. Just because segregation was ubiquitous in this country doesn’t make it less horrifying. We can’t change the past, but we can do a lot better in the present. An easy place for NOAC to start would be their decor.

If you're staying at a local hotel, NOAC has a $20 visit with proof (show room key). Accepts cash and credit but towels are $1. Hotels seems largely ignorant of this deal but would do well to promote it when their fitness center is a lie (looking at you Omni hotel! Update your website pictures!)The layout is eclectic, no elevator, so walk all the floors before you commit your workout to old equipment or a substitution exercise in your routine because they have everything: boxing ring, trx, power racks, all your CrossFit bullsh!t, etc.The old building and aging generations of equipment mean corners of dust and grime but it somehow adds to the historic vibe. Including an off limits museum of old Venice beach weights and circus dumbbells. Makes me want to do a steinborn lift!Membership is something like $90/m and I understand it's a 1 year commitment. They have a pool and sauna/steam room, bar and some nice private spaces. Cool place to visit. Weekend hours advertised as opening at 8am but people were scanning in well before 8am on a Saturday without a second glance.Undo what NOLA does to your body at NOAC!

Guy at front desk is rude and has very little concern for customers. You will also almost assuredly get your car booted at some point.
