This is the best place to learn functional fitness. I've worked with Coach Chris for years- he is a phenomenal motivator and master of technique. He always finds the effective way to cue students. If you're looking to get fit, have fun, and make some friends, this is the place to do it.

I started coming in September and really enjoy my sessions with Chris. He has good workouts and is very encouraging and supportive. Of the people I met, everyone is friendly and chill. Great place to come if you’re new to weightlifting or more advanced.

Chris and his team at The GYM (formerly known as Berkeley Conditioning and Fitness) have helped me accomplish the one thing no other gym has done....become consistent. I've been a member of big box gyms in the past and after 3-4 months, I'd get bored of doing the same squat/bench/deadlift routine and stop going to the gym (not to be confused with The GYM). I joined a year ago in June 2021 and I'm happy to say that I've made the trek out the door to the gym every single week. Chris and The GYM community have made working out something I look forward to every day. In my year training here, I've become stronger, better conditioned, and most importantly, I have fun exercising!The GYM has 1 hour classes featuring a strength component and a conditioning component. There's also time slots available for open gym if you feel like doing your own thing as well. In terms of equipment, The GYM has all the equipment you need to help you reach your goals (multitude of power racks, rowers, assault bikes, kettlebells, dumbbells, etc.).

I wanted to start lifting weights and decided to try CrossFit after being inspired by a friend who lives out of state. I joined the GYM last August and it has been terrific.I hadn’t lifted weights much since high school and I was bored doing it on my own.Coach Chris, is a a great teacher and he is super patient with me. It has taken me a long time to learn the various skills and there are many that I’m still working on, but he is always attentive and kind. The workouts are completed within one hour with shorter focused periods of intensity.My favorite part about this gym is how much a community it is! It’s what I always imagined yoga classes would be like but they aren’t (at least not for me). Everyone is friendly and welcoming and lots of people hang out together outside of class. More than anything else, this is what keeps me coming back.

Chris and his team at The GYM have been a second family to me. One of the best decisions of my life was to learn how to lift properly under his supervision. He sets challenging workouts daily and has progressively increasing strength programs as well. All designed to slowly but safely increase your weightlifting capacity without cutting corners.
