University Recreation at UTRGV offers a welcoming, well-equipped environment for students and visitors alike. This recreation center features a wide array of gym equipment, including an indoor track, racquetball courts, basketball courts, and a rock climbing wall. The facilities are well-maintained, and there are various amenities to cater to different workout preferences.
It's particularly appealing for UTRGV students, though the daily $10 fee for non-students can be a bit steep. While the gym receives high praise for its cleanliness and range of equipment, some users have reported issues with staff professionalism and an overly strict dress code policy.

Pretty cool if you're a UTRGV student. But in my opinion it's not worth it to pay the $10 fee per day to use the gym if you're not registered for classes. If you're not an enrolled student, I'd recommend you to go somewhere else.

I like to visit whenever I'm back in town. Reminds me of my college days. New equipment since I graduated 10 years ago which is nice.

Love this place. My son attends camp here in the summer and has a blast. The rock climbing wall and pool are his favorites.

the people that work at the rockwall are super unprofessional and treat the guests horribly. higher ups need to reevaluate who they hire. most of the staff are high while they work and they could seriously injure someone.

the staff is either really nice one day or all huddled up in a corner and talking to eachother wothout acknowledging their guests. their are a ton of dress code rules and are strictly enforced and some of them are a little bit too much but whatever I’m happy to comply. i wish they had a larger weights section with more benches bc it is always crowded whenever i go. maybe they can also add in a women’s only section. but i’ve never had any problems with other guys there. lastly i wish we had the choice to have our money in our tuition be paid towards the gym or not if we wanted to go to a gym closer to our house instead. i try to find the time to go on the days that i’m on campus but on the weekends and during breaks i can’t drive 30 minutes just to go to the gym since gas prices are absurdly high nowadays.

Come here if you want to be treated as if you’re in high school with their dress code and the plethora of rules in place, otherwise you’re better off just subscribing to another gym membership. Staff are often rude and not helpful. Ridiculous that they can’t look up your name if you forget your student ID card, never have I been to another gym (school or private) where this is policy and they’d rather send you away than let you workout in a place you pay for. Lost an item and called 2 days later, they had it, filled out a lost slip and told them I’d be there to get it following spring break since I’d be out of town, they ensured me several times it would be ready for me when I got back. Went by to pick it up today and it’s gone. Hours of operation are inconvenient for a busy college student, especially only being open for 5 hours between both Saturday and Sunday. Don’t waste your time with UTRGV rec center, just wish it wasn’t automatically included in tuition.

Great rec. The staff keeps it as clean as possible and I regualr see them walk around disinfecting different areas of the gym. Its has a little bit of everything. Not to mention the racketball courts and 2 full size basketball courts.

Best place on campus to get swole (so I've heard) and if you go early in the day then you'll easily get access to the squat rack. Someone needs to address the Pikachu problem in the rower tho, keeps messing up my reps.
