When you step on to Professor Mario’s mat’s at the Academy, you’re welcomed by not only a friendly professor ready to commit to your training, lifestyle, and overall well being, you’re also welcomed by the biggest family of other members. Kids birthdays, weekend outings, the friendships and feeling of inclusiveness is something on another level. They say bjj finds you exactly when you need it. I was 30 when I started! I’d definitely recommend checking it out if you’re curious.

For parents: My 7 yr old twins have been coming to Gracie Barra for a year now. Professor Mario provides a fun yet disciplined environment for kids, and the same consistent energy and positivity week in and out. My children love coming twice a week, where they learn valuable and useful lessons about safety, effort and of course Jiu-jitsu!

By far the best jiu-jitsu gym my family and I have been to! The moment you walk in the door you will find it to be very clean, professional, and inviting. Professor Mario is always there to greet you and answer any questions you may have! The gym is fairly new in the Greater Portland area therefore you have an array of members with different levels of experience. Great for anyone who is just starting out and even for the more advanced. Gracie Barra South Portland offers children's classes on Monday and Wednesday evenings in which my 6 year old daughter attends and loves! There is also a great Friday night Woman's Class that focuses directly on us women in BJJ. Although the gym is very inclusive in every class that it offers, Friday nights have a specific time for the ladies to improve, support, and grow with each other!
