Nelson Fitness Center is located at Brown University and caters to students and the public. The gym features various equipment and fitness classes at competitive prices. A standout feature is the well-maintained pool, which many consider the best in Rhode Island. However, the gym’s small size, crowded conditions, and outdated equipment detract from the experience. Additionally, the facility's early closing times and undergrad-centric operations make it less suitable for those with regular adult working hours.
Pros:
- Excellent pool facilities
- Competitive pricing
- Friendly and professional staff
- Wide range of fitness classes
- Clean environment
- Good selection of equipment
- Open seven days a week
- Centrally located on Brown University campus
- Well-maintained pool with ample lanes
Cons:
- Small and crowded
- Early closing times
- Undergrad-centric schedule

Brown sells nelson passes to the general public but they operate the gym on a strict undergraduate schedule. It's so undergrad centric that graduate students often need to pay for a second gym membership elsewhere to be able to maintain their physical health. It's an okay gym for college students and their schedules, but if you actually want to workout like an adult with adult working hours, definitely go elsewhere.

Love the swimming pool. The staff and safeguards are friendly. But the gym facilities upstairs are outdated with smears and marks all over. Several ones are dysfunctional. Besides, this space is very crowded. Okay, let's talk about downstairs in the basement. The shower heads are tiny with very low water pressure. You can't get a good clean shower after swimming to rinse off the chlorine. The spinning dryer and the two hair dryers both stopped working. One last thing, mold is everywhere in the shower stalls due to bad ventilation. Yes, mold!!! It's sad to see this is the fitness center for a well-known university. And no one cares to improve it.

Great gym. Great pool. It's unfortunate it closes early, but it still provides a quality service.

For a D1 school, this gym is bush league. This is all of it. Maybe 2000 square feet.

Small. Clean, good selection of equipment. Summer hours are sometimes inconvenient but to be expected for a college gym

This is an AMAZING facility with work out facilities and one of the greatest pools I have ever seen. Staff was extremely professional and helpful.
