I was a member for well over 10 years. Also I was an instructor there. Don't join much better gyms. The clientele that is the predominate members of Colonial Fitness are the worst of the worst Karens they make the gym toxic and a very unfriendly environment. Sadly the fitness management gives these nasty Karens a voice because they are worried about losing their core clientele being the Karens. The gym is on a downward decline. They are rude and nasty to subs who come in when the regular instructor is away. Anyone new coming into the gym they make it known the new person isn’t welcome. I have been involved in yoga and body flow/balance well over 10 years. Taking classes and teaching them. I started have health issues in early 2023 some major health issues that had hospitalized me more than once. Part of the health issues for unknown reasons I developed serious blood clots in my leg and lungs which side lined me for about 3 months. I started back with just personal training after the hospital and returned to Colonial Fitness 3 months after the hospital. My return to Colonial Fitness was met with extreme rudeness and negative toxic energy from the Karens. They didn’t want me in the body flow/balance class. Upon return to fitness I wear a heart monitor and need to an oximeter to keep track of my blood oxygen level. I do now have certain physical limitations. There are things within yoga and body flow/balance to need to modify so that i do not injure myself. I expected to returned to Colonial's body flow/balance as I had prior to my hospitalizations with my modifications. I arrive usually 30 minutes before class if the fitness room is open I go in set up my mat stretch, practice some, and meditate before class start. I set up in the front off to the side so that I can use the mirror as a guide to check my form. I don’t bother anyone in this class and i don’t engage them in chat. I went into Colonial once a week for a Thursday morning body flow/balance class after class I shower than go about my day. The Karens filed complaints about me. One was the soft voice component of my heart monitor giving me reminders as being a distracting to them (being new with the monitor I am able to silence the voice reminders). The other complaints are that because I am 6’3” in the front of the room and I am modifying (not following every movement in the class) that is distracting to the Karens. I am modifying based on my limitations and owe no one an explanation for it. I do so to avoid hurting myself. I am well off to the side and I don’t block anyone from seeing the class instructor and if that was the case that person should move. If that person needs a more of a view. there is plenty of room this is not a full class. I myself do not have a clear view of the instructor I know what I am doing and I listen to the instructor’s instructions. Like everyone else i have a right to set up wherever there is space. None of these Karens should be looking at me in the first place. I am not the instructor and since clearly their focus is on me not the instructor that goes beyond being Creeps. From that I can assume these Karens’ husbands don’t touch them. The true issue that has been around for years these Karens don’t want a male in the class especially one who even on his worst day can out preform them in any fitness challenge. I don’t look at them I focused on my form and the instructions. I am being told to set up in the back which I will not do. For over 10 years I have always set up in the front without an issue. I am a paying member of the club and entitled just as they are to use the facility and take classes. There is this thing called Americans with Disabilities Act of which I am someone with a disability (classified by the US government). Giving these Karens a voice and telling me where I can set up is discrimination and a violation of Americans with Disabilities Act. This is a toxic negative Gym environment so I would not recommend becoming a member.

This is not a welcoming fitness center. Strictly transactional service. If you have options, then strongly explore alternatives unless you’re desperate.

Joanne Ewing was a tremendous help as my personal trainer when I was recovering from my back surgery! She was spot on with designing a program for me to regain my strength, flexibility, and range of motion. I am very grateful for everything that Joanne has done to help me get back to my life after major surgery!

I have tried a bunch of the gyms in the area and always return to this one as my favorite! It is comfortable with all different kinds of people working out here. Lots of choices of what to do but love that I can do real lifting without feeling like people are judging me. And the best part is the amazing trainer I happened to find even though I wasn’t looking. Luke Kline really cares that I meet my goals and I love that he pushes me to really excel. I’ve already lost 40lbs and know that I will hit my healthy goal. You have to try it out!!!
