I remember the first time walking into the academy after training 10 years, it was like just starting to fall in to Jiu-Jitsu again. Tanner and Mathew rice are two of the most loving yet technical people in the Jiu Jitsu community not only to mention tanners a world champion (IBJJF) the kids program is insane and extremely successful a lot of those kids end up at the top of the podium and I'm not surprised. If you're new to the area or just looking for a place to call home rice bros stands at the top of my list for norcal area. 10/10

I started taking lessons because a neighbor had been threatening me. I took group lessons at 6:00 am and some private lessons. The instructors are knowledgeable and the people attending the class, no matter their belt level, are supportive. I can recommend them to anyone of any age level or experience.Ben H

Rice Brothers is fantastic. This is where my daughter got her start in BJJ, and then she got me into it. Whenever we are in town, this is where I train. Its a great gym culture, people train hard, but are very friendly, and everyone has their ego in check. The instructors know what they are doing, and are always willing to roll with you and give you some pointers. There is a wide variety of people, skill levels, and sizes. Kids and adults, men and women, big and small, and a good group of upper belts and lower belts. They have a class schedule that works for anyone.

I’m brand new to Jiu Jitsu and have been training here for a few weeks now, I never felt out of place or intimidated. Tanner and Matt are great instructors and everyone in the gym is very friendly and welcoming. I can’t recommend it enough!

Matthew and Tanner are great coaches. Our kids have learned a lot and are getting so strong and confident. All the coaches are very knowledgeable.

Visiting town for work and did a drop in. Went straight to drilling for about 30 minutes and then did 30 minutes rolling. Rolling started from standing, which was great, and even as a drop in student I got some technical advice. If I'm ever back in the area I'll be back in this gym, and if I lived here I'd train here no question.

Great Jiu Jitsu school . It's been almost a year that my daughter nessa has been training here and she absolutely loves it. Her instructors are Matthew and Fisher and they are beyond great. I'd definitely recommend this school for your kids!

I honestly do not know how somebody can leave one star for this gym. There is nobody thrown around like fresh meat in either the kids class or adults class. The only thing I can agree with that A L left in the comments is that these boys are champions. Their teaching of Jiu Jitsu is world class. Their care and consideration (especially for new comers) is second to none. They will train you or your children to become champions. Obviously there will be some bumps and bruises along the way because you are training a sport that involves bumps and bruises. If you want a participation trophy every time you come to class or simply want your child coddled and their hand held, than I would suggest ballet or starting a rock collection for them, but if you want them to know how to defend themselves from bullies or give an adult some self confidence than come give it a try!!! Thanks A L for your one star amoungst the other five star reviews.

Just finished my first year at Rice Bros. I could not recommend the school enough. Good people. Friendly atmosphere. But be warned, if you have a ego you better be ready to leave it at the door. This is a place full of strong men and women who hold them self to a high standard and they expect you to do the same. Be humble, work hard. You will do great!

Professional. World Champs rome these mats. Friendly. The kids classes are awesome. The students are all stellar .. friendly. The quality of the training experience in any academy comes from the top. Tanner, Matt and Sam Rice...worth spending a few sessions with them before you make a decision. We have good Jiu Jitsu in NorCal.. It's better to know your options through experience first.. before making the final decision. I could happily train at any of the academies in Redding... but I know one thing.. Rice Bros/Amazonas are the standard for the student who wants to go really far in BJJ. They have a very solid program for beginners. Blue belts and up will not be disappointed .. I am a casual practitioner of BJJ and I love this place.. the energy is the best.
