Beacon Health & Fitness South Bend offers a sense of community and ample amenities. Located at 111 W Jefferson Blvd, South Bend, the center provides a wide range of equipment and classes. The staff is friendly and helpful, enhancing the gym experience. However, the facility is not pristine, with some dated equipment and cleanliness issues in certain areas. Overall, it remains a popular choice for those seeking a supportive environment for fitness.
Despite its strengths, the gym has room for improvement, particularly in staff attentiveness and facility maintenance. The hours could also be extended on weekends. For detailed information, visit their website at beaconhealthsystem.org.

This is my favorite of the two facilities to visit simply because it gets a bit less traffic than the Mishawaka facility. It's older but clean. There tends to be at least one thing broken and any given time because it's an older facility. Generally not too much of an inconvenience though.

The gym is generally clean and it's rarely crowded (this is the South Bend location; I hear the Mishawaka one has more people.) The staff is friendly and the equipment is well-maintained. The owners won't buy new equipment--one staff member told me that "dozens" of people had asked for a $200 piece of equipment that lets you do standing crunches, but they refuse to buy new equipment--and maintenance of the gym proper is often inadequate. Over the course of a few months, the temperature in the gym increased from 72 degrees (already too warm) to 78, but the staff didn't acknowledge the problem. Then, one day when water started to pour from the ceiling, a repairman finally came and chastised the manager loudly (many of us could hear him) for being too cheap to replace a 25-year-old AC system. In order to keep the old system going, the managers try not to put any strain on it, so the gym is not cool. Since all the windows in the gym are sealed shut and there are no portable fans, the result is an uncomfortable gym during the summer months. That's why I didn't renew my membership. Beacon's opening a new location soon, but I'm sure I'm not the only (former) member who wishes they'd put some more effort into caring for the gyms they already have.

Love the therapy (warm water) pool. The staff is helpful to everyone, regardless of your age or fitness level.
