Absolutely love this place. The leadership and examples set by Professor Justin and Brooke are unmatched. They relate with the kids and keep it fun putting things into terms they understand. The discipline mentally and physically our child has learned here is priceless and go far beyond the mat. Thankful to have found Avant Garde. If you are wanting to explore something new they have both adult and children's classes learning the sport and art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Professor Justin is an amazing teacher. He is highly motivated and is very passionate about jujitsu. He wants his students to succeed. He creates an atmosphere where we are all in it together and help each other. I love it.

Loved it !! Awesome people great environment!! Highly recommend anyone who trains bjj all levels and walks of life to stop in and say hi at least to professor Justin rice! Was my first Time visiting another academy open mat. Was welcomed with open arms and triangle chokes! Loved it, hope to visit on the regular!! Thank you again professor Justin Rice!!

Avant Garde is an excellent place to learn Jui Jitsu on all levels. Professor Justin and coach Brooke are amazing with the kids. My 8 year old son has been training there for 7 months and we couldn't ask for a better place. Thankful to have found Avant Garde.

As a student of Avante Garde you can expect each class to be scaffolded, and the professor will teach you the foundational skills necessary for you to grow as a student, so you never feel lost. Professor Justin is a true master of his craft, you can tell that he really preplans his teachings so that each lesson builds off of the next. Everyone is respectful and encourages you to improve. This dojo makes you feel like you're part of the family, a family that will mold you into the best version of yourself.

Avant Garde is the real deal. As another reviewer stated, Professor Justin scaffolds each lesson. He teaches you a small part, has you practice it, then he adds another part that builds off of it, and he has your practice it. It’s amazing to see how he fits the puzzle pieces together for you, all at a pace a beginner can understand. Not only is he exceptionally talented at Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, he is even more talented as a teacher. Everyone at the academy is friendly and helpful. If you are looking to learn Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in the Amarillo/Canyon area, you shouldn’t look anywhere else.

I just recently started training here under Professor Justin Rice and I absolutely love it. My main goal was to lose weight but it has turned into really wanting to learn Jiu Jitsu. I have never felt so good about anything in my life. I feel energized throughout the day and look forward to going to the gym to take the next step. Professor Justin is an excellent teacher and an expert in his craft. He breaks things down so anyone can understand it. Every other student I’ve met so far has been friendly, encouraging, positive and supportive. If you’re looking to find a great Jiu Jitsu academy this is the only place in my opinion.
