I had membership at In-Shape Oswell several years ago. When I left Bakersfield for Visalia, I continued my membership at In-Shape Demaree. Each time the service was the same; five stars across the board. It was easy to continue my membership back at In-Shape Oswell upon moving back to Bakersfield. With the upgrades and enhanced amenities it was a no brainer.

I love Inshape because the staff are very helpful, especially to the visually impaired. The staff help me to my equipment, and 99% of the time the equipment is always working.

Low quality for the cost. Very packed in the evenings. Not enough exercise machines/workout areas for the number of visitors. Bathrooms poorly maintained (dirty, usually out of towels/tp/soap). Not much better than planet fitness.

Had membership for many years off and on, came back in April told the person that signed me up I wanted the promo discount for my job, he told me to use the April promo and in two months update my job, came back in June to update the information just to find out that this person miss informed me at least that’s what the manager in turn a lady told me, I explained to her that I don’t need to lie she told me that the young guy that signed me up is not longer an employee that she can cancel my membership but I will have to sign up, not sure if she lie or not but all the time I was in her office she was watching some show on her phone didn’t even bother to lower the volume, so unprofessional. Same day I sent an email to complain about this, no one bothered to answer.

I’ve been coming here for a few years now and I love this gym! It can get a little packed but that’s every gym. There’s plenty of machines and free weights to do your workouts and then can go cool off at the pool or go into the sauna or steam room. The people are cool here. Only thing I wish they had was that they would add a punching bad somewhere like in other locations

First off, I’m new to gym life and working out. I have been going weekly since January (6 months) The “PinkRoom” for women only is wonderful and kept fairly clean—- BY MEMBERS. I have never once seen an employee in this area either cleaning or checking in on clients. I have enjoyed the classes immensely. Yolanda is the best!!That being said, she has been out on recovery from an injury and they have yet to fill her role completely. I would think they could advertise IN THE GYM for a replacement and offer to get them certified for the classes if they really wanted to keep people coming.I’m one person, but Yolanda’s classes are always full —18-20 people each time, 9x a week—- so that’s a lot of people missing workouts (they are geared to older folks) and I would think a club that says they really care about the health of their clients would REALLY care that senior citizens are getting their exercise 🤷🏻♀️ but they do not seem to be putting in the effort that could be put in.My second point of contention is that when aqua classes were taking place, it was VERY unsafe to walk from the pool to the locker room. The class is at the same time each day, there is an 85 year old couple who come each time, and the floor is soaked. I ask for it to be mopped each time so they will not slip, the response I got — from the manager/asst manager? Was “I keep asking people to dry off before coming out but they don’t” ummmmm no. The burden lies on you. You are getting paid and are responsible for the safety of your facility. Have an employee with a dry mop stand in the hallway for 15-20 minutes after the class so the senior citizens will not slip and fall( I’m one of the youngest in the class at 50…so🤷🏻♀️). Many of the participants in this class are recovering from injury and bad hips/knees anyway😳🤷🏻♀️ please show some compassion.I have read reviews for all locations in Bakersfield because I will be changing locations — which sucks bc this one is so convenient for me— and many of the responses to the reviews are scripted🙄so I’m not hopeful for this review to change anything, but I’m writing it anyway to inform others who may be “older” looking for classes that this is not the place for you to feel appreciated. The only other slight negative I have is that I went in person and spoke with a member of management to tell them I was interested in the job that as posted, and was met with a mediocre response and no follow up. My husband said “you’re not young enough or wear enough makeup to hold this job”He’s not wrong. There is definitely a “type” hired at this location. 🤷🏻♀️I hope to see something different at the new location I try before changing gyms to a less expensive chain. All of this said, I will end on a positive. There is always empty equipment—even at the busiest times— so you can find a place to workout. The members are friendly and welcoming to newcomers. Always greeted as you enter, even if no one is at the desk. Members also seem to be quite good at cleaning after use, which is encouraging, and I do often see equipment being cleaned by staff— in the main workout area.I hope the critiques here are helpful to those looking for a new place to workout or those choosing an In-Shape location☺️☺️

I have had very bad experience at this gym.1.- At my first 2 weeks from signing up my credit card was stolen from my bag. It literally was taken out from my wallet.2.- My sweat towel was stolen too while I was training & I couldn’t find anywhere.3.- Couple of weeks later, I signed up my girlfriend into my account and they stole their personal equipment for training (straps, foam weigh lifting pad, etc). The entire set they took.4.- As of today, they stole my girlfriend shirt from the locker while she was stretching. There is not much to do because I can’t prove who did it but to cancel my membership and raise awareness with everyone and not signing up here.

"The expiediant and expertise of the Assistant General manager I spoke with at In-Shape Oswell location and where my "Reserved Locker" is located. He thoroughly took care of my every question pertaining to booking reservations on the In-Shape app, as well as providing informative information on when the pool would be open for reserved laps.I was impressed at his knowledge and hope to see other members like Les, Brady, Daniel, & even serious gym enthusiast Sherrie, whom I met there. Pertaining to my experience today. It was very nice too be able to get the feel and get updated on trainers and upcoming classes. I highly recommend In-Shape Gyms / Heathclubs❣️❣️❣️"Sincerely Christopher L. Acosta

EDITEDThe staff I recommend no longer work for In Shape. The new management is idiotic. As well for there new closing time, the old closing time was better (11pm on the weekdays & 8pm on the weekends). That gose for re-puting the mask requirement again; I feel they should have stayed closed.
