Myles really knows his stuff! He takes a holistic approach to training and is super knowledgeable on the latest science in fitness, mental strength and longevity. He trains a lot of serious athletes but also people like me who want to feel healthy and stay active without injury.

Myles will change your life. He shares a remarkable depth of knowledge from both study and experience to guide you in learning the project of wellness, not just practicing it. As a client I feel like family, welcome and fully supported by his consistent commitment to intention in his space and guidance. I cannot recommend ARETE highly enough for anyone looking to grow in self mastery and personal flourishing.

Myles and Lisa have a great deal of technical knowledge, which they couple with enthusiasm. Their workouts provide options for every fitness level and they thoughtfully include progressions as you advance. During the early COVID times they quickly pivoted to remote workouts and helped us with a modified approach to standard weights through using things in our home. As the supply chain came back, they helped with sourcing for in-home weights and bands. They are knowledgeable about nutrition and offer dietary advice if that is of interest. Beyond that they are fun, funny, and truly care about helping to improve our whole health. I've been working out with Arete for more than a decade and can honestly say that not only am I stronger and fitter, I also know more about my body and how to care for it. Do yourself a favor and instead of starting your New Year's Resolution with a fad diet or buying a new piece of exercise equipment that will become a laundry drying rack, try out Arete Athletics.

Myles' middle name is "Accommodation".What in the world would we all have done, a year ago, if Myles had not almost instantly morphed into Zoom mode, and guided us into creating home exercise spaces where we had none, and then accommodating to those idiosyncratic spaces...?Scheduling, too, has been challenging, as everything has changed. That has required constant flexibility. And then there's what's always been there -- Myles' unending ability to accommodate our array of ages, ailments, and abilities. I always feel sweaty and stretched, and if I have soreness, it's the good, self-congratulatory kind. And I'm ...ah...old. But nothing compared to my parents. Myles worked out my mother until she was about 95 -- yes -- 95, and my stepmother, during her visits here, last time at 96.Like I say, diligent, knowledgeable, caring, demanding -- and accommodating.

Been working with Myles since I was in middle school the guy really knows his stuff and can turn anyone into an athlete and I’m sure anyone with Arete is great too. This gym and the trainers go beyond fitness and creatively teach and combine movement with other aspects of fitness to push you to and beyond your athletic potential.Highly recommend Arete Athletics.

Arete is first class. Myles Magnuson runs this gym, and I believe is the best trainer in the area. I am a 54 year old golf junky, and regularly push my body past its recommended tolerances. Thanks to Myles, I have been able to keep going without injury. His knowledge is way deeper than any other trainer I’ve worked with. I truly believe he could be a doctor. I especially appreciate his patient and non-judgmental approach when showing me new moves. He always seems to know exactly how hard to push, which is usually beyond what I expected; but never too far. He’s extremely “tuned in” and balanced. I feel very fortunate to work with him.

I've been training with Myles for six years. Pre-covid, I was in group and individual sessions. Due to various issues, I had to reduce my training since March '20, but starting in January '21, I'll be training online. The physical facility is spacious, has comprehensive equipment, and is meticulously maintained.Over the six years, I'd never seen Myles without a prepared workout tailored for my needs. The workouts followed common themes (aerobic warmup, stretching/roll-outs, basic core, more complex core, finished with conditioning) but with little repetition from session to session. On the occasions where I'd been injured (by me, not Myles), he was able to adapt the session quickly.Myles is friendly and demonstrates competence both in the theory of what we're trying to accomplish as well as the details of how each exercise/set works towards those goals.I highly recommend Arete and Myles.

I’m probably past my days of competitive sports. However, I still want the strength, flexibility, and balance needed to participate fully in life, from hiking, biking, and skiing to home remodeling. I’m definitely willing to make the commitment and I demand that my training partner have at least an equal level of commitment. That’s why I train with Myles. In a one hour session, Myles integrates warm-up, flexibility, balance, strength, and neuro-muscular components. He designs movements that challenge multiple muscle groups and joints to ensure functional balance. My sessions with Myles are probably the single best investment I make in myself. If you’re looking for a trainer/coach who is passionate about his craft, is constantly educating himself, and will design a program for you that is efficient, comprehensive, and personal, then you should be training with Myles!

Myles and Lisa are most qualified for fitness training and nutrition advice. My golf and tennis games were much improved this year due to their tailored workouts. My balance, core strength and flexibility are light years ahead of where I was a year ago! I really enjoy their regular email challenges and advice with recipes for nutritional, yet tasty treats. I highly recommend Arete Athletics for anyone interested in seeking or maintaining optimal fitness.
