Pros are that it wasn’t packed and it was clean. Cons are it’s old equipment. Parking is easy.

Pretty good selection of equipment, never really too many people so I almost never wait for a machine or weight

Descent gym for the price. Most of the machines and cardio equipment are older. No tv screens on the cardio machines. There is usually no waiting on equipment as there are a lower number of members. Clean locker rooms with showers. Sauna on-site as well as tanning for extra cost. Most of the members are elderly.

I was a member here on and off since they opened. I got so frustrated with how they’d be randomly closed with ZERO explanation on their website/social media. I’d wake up early specifically to go to the gym before work - during City Gym’s advertised operating hours - and they’d be closed. I left City Gym a year ago and joined the new gym in town that offers 24/7 access to members (and has about 10x the equipment.) Unfortunately my brother is still a member of City Gym and has recently shown up during their business hours only to find them closed.

I was in Bellingham for a few days and needed to do my PT exercises following total knee replacement surgery. I was able to work out here with my Silver Sneakers membership. Was able to do most of the things I needed to do with a bit of creativity. I went on a Thursday, mid-morning, and there were a few people working out but I had no problem doing what I needed to do. The gal at the front desk was very accomodating.

This place has started going down hill. There’s a reason their rates are so much cheap than all other gyms in town. The owner just doesn’t care. These pictures are from April 24, 2023. If they’re not willing to spend $50 on touch up paint and hand grips for the machines, what will they do when machines need replacement? And no one seems to notice the board by the men’s locker room has dates from 5 months ago

I love this gym but the new online Wellyx sign in thing is dumb and I hate it. Can we please just go back to scanning our cards? Also they allow minors to workout here and most of them are obnoxious. This gym should be adults only space.

I have been a member at this gym for three years. The best gym is the one you will use, and for me this gym's location and hours are very convenient. If you join during a sale the cost is about $200 for a year. For your $4/ week you get access to yoga (Sarah is great), cycling and other fitness classes, a good range of equipment and free weights and a diverse and friendly clientele. Worth every penny, you can find fancier clubs, but for me this one is perfect.

HOT. When it's hot outside it's hot in the workout room. I felt like passing out when I was on the bike yesterday. They have AC, but it wasn't installed effectively, so the change room/shower area is cold and the main workout room is hot. The opposite of comfortable. Sorry, City Gym - I know how ridiculously expensive AC work is here nowadays. I've had to do it, myself, and the HVAC companies are charging criminal prices to businesses. So, I sympathize. However, I joined your gym because my garage gym is too hot.Your website advertises a "5 day trial guest pass". But when I went there to try it out, the employee told me, "Oh, the website is really old. We don't have free trials." I felt bad for that employee. That's an uncomfortable situation to put your front desk staff in. She was very nice, which was one reason why I went ahead and signed up, despite the false advertising. (BTW, I can update your website for you. I'll do it for free.) This was the second gym I went to that had advertised a free trial that was bogus. The other was Anytime Fitness in Ferndale. OTOH, Bellingham Athletic Club WILL give you a free trial). Two of the staff, young women, that have been working there at City Gym are very nice. The guy, though, could use a seminar in customer service. I worked in a gym a long time ago, and the owners made us learn every customer's name. That is "overboard", I know, especially nowadays. But, it actually did make the job enjoyable. I don't really care, though, that the guy isn't very friendly. That's okay. But I hope the ladies who are nice to customers get rewarded for their pleasantness. Also, I wish there were more classes. (That also needs updating on your website.) I wanted to do "Dance with Patitude", but that was old information, too, and isn't offered. I'd have been happy with one aerobics or dance class per week (that wasn't for seniors.) I think it's nice, though, that you cater to seniors - I'd rather work out around seniors than a bunch of meatheads who drop weights. So, that's good. And I am very glad that yoga is offered. At least there's that. Because of the yoga and the 2 nice young women who work at the front desk, I'm giving 2 stars (as opposed to 1).I'll increase my rating if the temperature issue gets fixed.

Paid for a 1 week pass, because I was traveling to Bellingham for work, then got told on Day 2 that my pass was only good for one day. I train every day from 5-7am. I told the front desk worker exactly what dates I would be there when I paid for the pass when I bought it, and double-checked check-in procedures before I left, so there was no mistake. He told me a manager would call me, which never happened. He seemed like one of the most apathetic gym employees I’ve ever run into in my travels.Other than that, the equipment is a bit dated, but they pretty much have everything you need. Gym members, at least in the early morning, seem respectful and rerack their weights. With a few changes, this gym could be amazing.
