As a powerlifter, the gym is literally my second home. The community is amazing, the equipment is amazing, the staff is amazing, everything is great. I strongly recommend this gym to everyone who takes lifting seriously, regardless if you’re a bodybuilder, powerlifter, stronglifter, whatever.

I hate to dump on a place I didn't get to fully experience...however ..Went in for a day pass with my gf (former bodybuilder, and myself an experienced powerlifter) and I personally thought this was the worst gym I've ever been to.We went in looking to try everything to see what it had to offer, on a day pass.First four machines (two leg curls, leg extension, and a leg press) were all either problematic and/or awful.Laying Leg extension: couldn't go full ROM would lock into place (we tried multiple different positions), and the belt got stuck. We noticed a girl after us trying it with the same problem (so we are fairly confident it wasn't due to our lack of using this specific machine).Sitting Leg Curl: very odd looking mechanism, and the leverages on it was very strange, could be personal preference, but out of 30+ gyms over the east coast , I've personally never had one like that.Leg Extension: Every set the 'weights' locked into place (this wasn't a plate loaded machine but one where you choose the weights with a slider mechanical (not pin loaded either). Trying to release the weight on the machine (as the gf and I handle different weights) required quite a lot of force, and caused me once to jam my thumb into the metal frame (I guess I could have used my foot or something to dislodge it?...)Leg Press: Frustrated at this point, the gf mainly used the leg press (plate loaded) and only went up to about 6 plates per side. Starting with 3 plates, the leg press not only rocked left and right but forward and back , leading to quite interesting reps (each time). Now, I want to make this clear I actually prefer older equipment, nothing fancy, items that simply get the job done. However, all of these pieces of equipment had major flaws or issues and I'm embarrassed for the gym itself. With that said, they have a myriad of powerlifting racks, and from the looks of things (I did not try) calibrated plates, and decent power benches (not sure the brand) with proper pin placements (not simply 1").I also hear they have a sauna , and potentially a court upstairs ? (Saw someone bring a basketball up there).I definitely am biased given the only pieces of equipment either didn't work, worked poorly, or damn near injured me (half joking).Edit: The owner comes into the review to act like we didn't know how to use the equipment... What a strategy ..

They won’t even let you try the gym for a free workout before you commit to a long term membership, oh well their loss, guess I’ll stay at the competition (Golds Gym) who let’s you try before you buy.If “out of towners are benefitting” as you state below, that is easily fixed with requiring an ID! Wouldn’t more members keep the gym thriving and from going out of business, which “benefits the members”…..
