I've been training at Checkmat Corona with Professor Jimmy for about 6 months now, and I can honestly say the gym feels like a second home to me. Everyone one there is respectful of each other, and the instructors will gladly answer questions if you're not clear on how to do something. The higher ranking belts are just as helpful as the professors, and will help you through your sparing sessions, giving you pointers on how to improve. The kids' classes are also great. My nine-year-old son loves BJJ, (he tried soccer, baseball, and Taw Kwon Do prior to BJJ). All the coaches are extremely patient, and take time to explain the techniques, instilling in the children a sense of confidence and self-discipline as they train. Whether you're just looking to learn self defense, or you have aspirations of competing at a high level, this is the place to go.

Checkmat is amazing. I am so happy that we decided to join a year ago for our son. Professor Jimmy is fantastic with the kids and the kids all look up to him with respect and admiration. Our son can't stop taking about him and asks everyday of its a Jitsu day. The other Coaches that assist with the kids class are great and are always therr to help out.The professionalism with the team is fantastic, we are there 3-4 nights a week and anytime someone new walks into the door the professor acknowledges yhen and heads to great them as soon as it is safe to do so.We can't wait for many more years here with this team and especially Professor Jimmy. He really makes it feel like home.

Most people come for some high level BJJ or a great workout. You will get that and so much more. Great Jiu Jitsu, knowledgeable and super friendly staff along with some great training partners. I have trained at a few different places and can't imagine going anywhere else. My family and I were welcomed from day 1 and most members have continued that friendliness and professionalism which starts with Professor Jimmy and his wife Professor Cindy. I’ve been training with Professor Jimmy since 2017. This gym is top notch from the top down. My son is also in the kids program. Professor Jimmy welcomes everyone that walks through the door regardless if you’re new to JiuJitsu or bring your experience from another gym. I recommend this gym to everyone.

I have been attending the gym for over 6 months now and I have to say I am so thankful I chose Checkmat Corona as my BJJ gym. Professor Jimmy is an outstanding teacher that really cares about his students. The atmosphere is friendly but competitive which is a difficult thing to combine. I recommend this gym to anyone wanting to try out BJJ. Iron sharpens iron.

Checkmat is a great gym! Coach Jimmy and all of the other instructors are awesome. Our son has been going here for years and he/we love it. They take pride in taking great care of the facility, especially since COVID, they do a great job keeping the facility clean and following all precautions. Most importantly, they treat everyone like family, which is the kind of environment I want my son to be a part of.

As a traveling nurse I've been to quite a few gyms which has allowed me to experience many good and sometimes bad experiences. The first time I visited Checkmate Corona, I felt welcomed, included, and treated like part of the gym family. Jimmy and everyone at Checkmate Corona were beyond welcoming and laid back. Jimmy is one of the most invested black belts that I have met, staying after class to roll with whoever needs it and offering his knowledge and input freely. This gym is honestly the only gym that I have felt "at home" at besides my home gym in AZ. If I lived in the IE permanently, I would make this my gym...highly highly recommend!

I joined Checkmat last August and I’m happy with that decision. From the first day there Jimmy has been welcoming and professional running his academy. Jimmy is a skilled Black Belt and also an active competitor. When selecting an Academy I wanted to train where I would be surrounded by active competitors and feel a part of a team. Since joining my skills and technique has improved. Overall one of the best places to train.

Checkmat Corona BJJ is a great place to learn jujitsu. The people there are welcoming, humble, and respectful. I haven't had any issues. Didn't know what to expect, having it being my first time learning this art but professor Jimmy is a awesome instructor and down to earth. I recommend that you check out this place for yourself. The pricing is more competitive/affordable than other BJJ places.
