Student Recreation Center at Colorado State University provides modern, clean, and spacious amenities for the students. The center is conveniently located on campus, making it easily accessible for students. The large windows offer picturesque Mountain View while working out. The facility includes a variety of cardio equipment, basketball courts, group classes, and a popular rock climbing wall. However, many customers have noted that the center has an overabundance of cardio equipment and a lack of sufficient weight machines.

Additionally, frequent issues with broken or outdated equipment can hamper workout routines. Though the amenities are top-notch, the gym's capacity often results in long waits for machines. While it serves its purpose for many, some users have expressed dissatisfaction with how the student fees are utilized, prioritizing aesthetic renovations over essential upgrades. Overall, the Student Recreation Center offers a decent workout experience but could improve in numerous aspects.

Pros:

  • Modern and clean amenities
  • Convenient on-campus location
  • Large windows with Mountain View
  • Popular rock climbing wall
  • Basketball courts and group classes available
  • Variety of cardio equipment
  • Good condition of most cardio machines
  • Plenty of large recreational areas

Cons:

  • Frequent broken or outdated equipment
  • Long waiting times for weight machines
  • Overabundance of cardio equipment

Theres wayyyy too many treadmills i never see more than a handful people using them. The gym doesnt have enough space for the amount of students on campus. Theres an ok amount of free weights for the size of the gym but the machines are lacking. For someone like me who prefers machines its annoying plus theres only one type of each machine and so its barely ever free to use or if its broken your out of luck.If i wasnt paying tuition i would probably just go to a different gym.

I’m not usually the type of person to leave a review, but this gym is a disaster.1. It’s too small to serve a community of 30k students.2. There is way too much cardio equipment. The staff should document what percentage of this equipment is actually used and adjust accordingly.3. Workout equipment is CONSTANTLY broken or breaking down as you are using. If the equipment had green padding it’s probably about to break down (that’s pretty much everything). You can tell the equipment has been around for a decade or more4. If equipment is broken during the summer semester it will not get fixed until the week before the fall semester begins. Which is a bit rude since I’m paying $90 to be here on a graduate stipend.5. I can only speak for the men’s restrooms, but the soap dispensers and paper towel dispensers are also routinely broken. You’d think experiencing a pandemic would make that a bit more of a priority.6. Why are they making aesthetic renovations? I’d prefer my equipment to work so I can do my planned workout without having to improvise 3 times a week.I haven’t talked to staff much but they seem nice and just work for people that don’t have their priorities straight.

Visited after checking out the Business School. Students at Colorado State have such a beautiful and modern campus. I hope you all enjoy the time spent here. I am hoping my son will do a 2+2 and transfer when he is ready.

Very modern and nice amenities, but not enough equipment. It’s annoying when you can’t complete a full workout because you have to wait 15+ minutes for every machine you wanted to use. Every time it’s too busy it makes me not want to work out. Furthermore, website is sometimes wrong and pool is just randomly closed sometimes, making it hard to plan for

Ultra nice place, however 1/2 of all treadmills, muscle machines, stair steppers, and general exercise equipment is out of order at all times (at least 6 months at time of writing). if you want a specific machine anticipate a 30+ minute wait, and other patrons will not respect your requests for next. They also have primarily paid lockers so bringing a lock for a locker only *might* give you a spot. If you can’t afford another gym this will do, but if you can avoid this one at all costs.

There is a lot of cardio equipment, not a lot of weight equipment. The weight equipment that they do have is in rough shape; cracking/flaking on some of the seats, missing pads, rubber grips coming off, etc. Not much capacity for weight lifting, probably 20 people max in the weight area. The cardio equipment is mostly in good shape, plenty of machines too.

Too many people for not enough equipment. There's more treadmills than you'll ever need for 5 people using them.

Very clean gym. Plenty of machines and equipment for everyone. I’ve hardly ever waited for a machine. Quick and easy access on campus is perfect. The large windows make it really enjoyable to work out indoors and have the Mountain View. A lot of the equipment is newer and is in good condition. There’s plenty of large rec areas for open workouts, basketball courts, and group classes.

The Rec looks very nice and has many nice features, I enjoy the rock climbing wall but there are very frustrating aspects to the rec. They have an over abundance of cardio equipment which I have never seen completely full, even during peak hours...they have cardio equipment stashed almost everywhere. It is pretty standard equipment youd find which is similar to what you would find in most globo gyms which I would still prefer better equipment being this is a university which gets exorbitant amounts of funding from student fees and they dont seem to care about updating equipment, at least for non-athletes. The larger frustrations come with the resistance training components of the gym. The barbells are extremely bad and at times unsafe, some being wildly bent as well as collars simply sliding off even when clamped down. They have scarce amounts of certain staple machines such as a cable lat pulldown/ low row tower for which there is always some sort of wait for, even during the slowest times. They do have alternatives but all are very subpar with rubber handles that are constantly ripping and anyone who actually uses the equipment would tell you that they are mainly waiting for the one decent machine, which is also very prone to going down for maintenance. A lot of their machine selection seems very lackluster and superfluous as if the person who selected the machines has very little experience designing a gym or have ever tested the equipment they selected. What is the cherry on top is the disgusting ways they spend their money, again to make the rec look nicer without increasing the function and experience for the students using the facilities. I have never heard of anyone asking for an exorbitantly expensive makeover to the entrance of the rec for which they did in efforts to make it "more efficient" for which here say from workers say they spent over 1 million dollars on, for which they could have done an amazing update of their machines, both resistance and cardio based. So now they have two front desks that have 3 employees instead of the one desk that employed 2 people. This is just wasteful and is continuously frustrating to see how our high student fees are being wastefully spent. The rec is not a bad gym by amy means and you can get a great workout in but the extreme wastefulness of their spending on frivolous things instead of investing in better and more equipment as well as hiring someone who understands how to organizing a gym would go a long ways. It is pretty disgusting how they grossly misuse the funding of college students paying large amounts of student fees and going into debt.

Immaculate gym with tons of equipment and classes to take. Has a rock climbing wall, tennis courts, volleyball, pool, hot tub, etc. Huge place but still fills up almost completely around 5pm. Excellent place for a workout on campus👍 …
