This lady with glasses that looks like she’s in her 50s it’s super rude they should fire her because her attitude is horrible with the costumers be careful if u come here because they don’t treat people well.

Horrible staff, Me and my family had no problems until my aunt went one day and this lady with glasses that looks like shes in her 50’s kept giving her difficultly about going inside and instead of talking to her nicely about the problem she was very rude. All that passes and not even a week ago i went with my family they had brought me as a guest everything went good that day because of this white lady that was there which is a good staff very friendly.The next day we went and this guy look like he was in his 30’s was with the lady i had mentioned, at first he was giving us difficulty about me because of my age but I had came the day before? so he let us in after giving him my info and as I was stretching, he comes up to us and says you cannot stay here because of payment overdue, which I don’t understand what my old account has to do with me being their guest on a different account and doesn’t have overdue payments. i am very disappointed the machines are also very rusty. The pool had been shut down because they said “money problems” I hope me and my family can find a better ymca then the one in whiting👎.

Equipment not bad different machines from Hammond YMCA equipment needs to be repadded covers torn coming off of machines, need barbells have enough dumbbells, machinesspaced enough Hammond y to close to each other all in all not to bad could use a little ambiance music.

So I haven't had a problem with staff. They seem to be fine. Just don't really like the layout of the gym being in the basement. Very dark and gloomy, not very motivating. Preferred it better when the gym was on the top level.Weight equipment kind've outdated. They don't have bar bells or even a preacher pench/ curling bench. Basketball gym outdated as well. Needs updates.Closest gym to my house. Hopefully the can make changes so I don't have to find another gym.

Overall great place to work out. I’m giving a 1 star due to some of the staff there is ignorant. The basketball court hasn’t been updated since it was the community center and the weights section is way too small. Other then those 3 things making my review negative it would be the perfect gym.

Love the equipment but I’m giving a one star because they had horrible customer service. I went in with my little brother as a guest on 10/20/20 late evening and the first thing I was greeted was by a lady with glasses around her mid 50’s yelling at me to move back. She really caught me off guard because I expect good customer service in general. I really wanted to get a membership there but if they have that type of service I will not join. I hope that employee does not behave like that in general because no one deserves that type of service or attitude.

Formerly the Whiting Community Center, when the city administration could not afford it, they leased it to the YMCA, ripped out bowling alley, but restored much of place, including the lobby. There are hidden gems here, like the auditorium, but the "Y" wants to make a gymnastics area out of it. That would be a travesty.

It’s time to call for more order and respect towards the members and facilities. It’s shouldn’t be possible for members to enter shower rooms and steam rooms with gym equipment that dirties the floors, most members do not take a shower like the signs say which lead to foul odors and dirt for days to be cleaned. In majority of gyms, steam rooms, shower rooms and whirlpools are meant for relaxation and hygiene not for members to use as a place to warm up before their work outs or come fully kitted in sports equipment that damages and dirties the installations.
