I have been in the jiujitsu field and attended multiple schools for a long time. First, if you want a structured school that makes you bow at the mats (such a Japanese concept), force to wear their patches (money scheme - a lot of schools do not practice this), force you pay for each belt rank (another money grab, which a lot of good legitimate schools do not force their students to do), pushes to attend seminars (so they can get their cut), and love sub-par instruction then this is the spot for you. Coming from, and still training with the likes of Marcelo Mafra, Chris Haueter, etc, the teaching at gracie humaita hemet is rooted in an old school mentality with very little desire to improve. I know a lot of individuals who have left this school to go elsewhere. Besides the training, they call this a "family" school but do not let that rhetoric pull on your heart strings. Karol, the owner's wife, told me I could pause my membership at any time, but when I had to take a short, 3-month, hiatus to take care of a family member at home, they demanded I still pay them while i could not train. Mind you, I had been with them for over a year and expected some loyalty, but i received none. I refused and had to leave. The owner's wife hates to be questioned on anything and is a bit of a possessive individual. I also found out that she was charging my son's school more than other families who attended the same charter school. I never confronted her about this, but I find this ethical behavior troublesome. Also, keep in mind, that this place is has a very clique atmosphere. It never bothered me, but others who left the school expressed their disdain for their experience there. They try their hardest here to paint this gym as a family with values and a positive atmosphere, but do not let that fool you. There is a lot of negativity below the surface and a lot of tension. There is much more I could write here, but I will refrain for now. Trainer beware. Train smart, train hard, people.EDIT:To Karol's response to my original review:First off, I did not have any other school's logos. I did have old partnerships on my gi along with Mission 22 and Defy foundation for veteran suicide awarenes. Apparently these causes offend you and if anyone who is a veteran than I highly suggest you stay away from this school. Second, the loaner gi issued happen once and only when I borrow the gi top. You charged me more than $5.00 without my permission nor was I aware of any potential charge to borrow a top, but again this is just another practice to further nickle and dime your students. Also, it was not the third time in a single month. That is a straight lie and you know it. I only borrowed a top once. You get on me for skewing the facts when you cannot even keep your story straight. Third, I never said in my review that you were charging me a full membership price to remain active while i could not train; however, regardless of the amount, you should not being nickling and diming your students when they have a tumor that prohibits them from training. That is far removed from how you treat "family." It is, however, considered to be: GREEDY. Fourth, you never once reached out to us when my wife was recovering from her surgery. I never once heard from you after our conversation of you being upset with me questioning you for not telling me about pausing the membership fee, which is another point of conversation you conveniently left out here and lied to me about when I first signed up. Fifth, my positive rating was removed right after I left two years ago and not three. Finally, I express some disdain about another school I attended, but never once left them a negative review. I only decided to comment on here after friends of mine left your school and shared their disdain for how it was ran. I no longer recommend your school and it needs to be made public now. Do not worry. I am sure a competing school will be opening sooner or later and you will find your current business model unsustainable.

I really enjoy training at Gracie Humaita Hemet. Everyone is always very friendly and supportive, just really a great bunch of people. The Professor Omar Salum is very knowledgeable and him and his wife who is also a black belt make you feel like you’re part of a BJJ family. A great place for anyone at any age.

Professor Omar Salum earned my friendship and confidence right after I started coming to his dojo and learning his highly competitive classes. Real Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with deep roots into self-discipline and personal growth. I’d give him and his BJJ Gym 100 Stars if I could.
