Cheryl Cohen’s Desert Fitness Collective workout program far exceeds any other that I’ve tried for over 40 years. From gym aerobics & free weight classes to yoga, Pilates, TRX and others, I’ve felt benefits but never enough to stick with any of them. But working out in Cheryl’s class is better than any personal training, which I’ve tried many times as well.She has the perfect touch, motivating, encouraging and connecting with each of us personally.After two years isolating from Covid, I’m on the recovery road with my arms and legs developing muscle! I enjoy and look forward to every class.

Since joining Desert Fitness Collective I am now consistent with a workout routine that has helped me get stronger and my endurance is through the roof. Thank you Cheryl for your guidance and enthusiasm in creating this wonderful program!! I actually look forward to the workouts and the group camaraderie!!In addition, I have been dealing with some back issues the past few years and this program has helped me with lessening the pain. I first became interested in personal fitness when I turned 25; a quarter of a century was a significant milestone and it was time to get serious about my health and fitness. Recently I passed the three quarters of a century mark and realized I needed to reboot my fitness routine. Enter the Desert Cross Fit program I saw on Facebook and it’s leader, Cheryl Cohen. This program has the elements I was looking for: a three time a week commitment with warm ups, balance and aerobics, targeted strengthening, challenging oneself to do a little better each class and Cheryl, a knowledgeable and professional leader who can taylor the program to our personal needs. An added benefit is that we meet likeminded people and make new friends. We’re never too old to improve our physical selves! I recommend this program to anyone who wants this for themselves.

I am not an athlete. Never have been. All my physical challenges came through the rigor of my active teaching career, my children and taking care of a home. Fast forward to retirement. I do walk and swim regularly, but I wasn’t getting stronger, or increasing my endurance and flexibility as much as I wanted. I needed to add weight bearing exercise to my routine. Since joining the class, I am so much closer to my goals. It is some of the hardest physical work I’ve ever done, but the coaching is excellent. The coaches always present modifications for my personal physical challenges. The atmosphere in the class is also friendly, fun and everyone is supportive and encouraging without any hint of a competitive atmosphere.

If you are curious about crossfit or looking for a new workout you owe it to yourself to give this place a shot. I tried other gyms and programs but had a hard time staying committed on my own. I decided to give Desert Fitness Collective a try and met with Cheryl to take the initial assessment. She then recommended the class she determined I was best suited for.I was really nervous on my first day, and even considered not going in. I finally ventured in and Cheryl made sure to introduce me, as she does with all new members, to the class. I’ve felt incredibly welcomed and comfortable from day one.The level of coaching is detailed and thoughtful. Cheryl goes over all the moves/exercises and make modifications based on a person’s needs. They are focused on safety and are diligent about watching everyone’s form. They have a great sense for balancing intensity with encouragement and helping you settle on a weight that is safe, but still challenging.The gym is clean and spacious and we wipe down equipment after we use it.This place feels really comfortable, even for a newbie like me that’s only been here for about 6 months. You’ll see people of all ages, shapes and sizes doing what they can do. Don’t be afraid of crossfit, it will change you in ways you’ll never expect.Overall, it’s a really, really awesome place!

I’ve been taking senior CrossFit classes with Cheryl at Desert Fitness Collective for over a year and would highly recommend her to anyone of any age or fitness level. After being active all my life, I had been frustrated by multiple injuries plus surgery, and was looking for a knowledgeable trainer to guide me through a difficult and lengthy recovery. I am pleased to report I am kicking a$&@. Cheryl knows her stuff and has built a supportive and fun community that has been absolutely critical to keeping fit, staying active and feeling great.

I’m the last person to believe that I would be posting about my experience with a fitness coach. I’ve been procrastinating about doing this for years. After having a double mastectomy eight years ago, my body shape changed drastically. I’ve hated looking at myself in the mirror. I lacked mobility and strength.Then, earlier this year, I was blessed with a grandchild and realized that my attitude about my physical health needed to change.Coach Cheryl reached out to me just as I had made that decision and I took her up on her offer of trying three sessions before committing.I am proud to tell you that after just six visits, I achieved one of the most important goals I had, which was being able to get up off of the floor by myself! This may not sound like much, but for me, it was a mile stone. The techniques that Cheryl, Hector, and David taught me have giving me the confidence and courage to believe in myself, and not fear losing my balance as much.I am courage anyone who is on the fence for whatever reason to give yourself a Christmas present this year, and join the club! You’ll be glad you did.

Working out at Cheryl’s studio was my favorite time I have ever trained at a gym.She is such an expert in her field.Though she’s tough & she makes you work hard!She does so with love & humor.With support and care.She truly cares about her clients on a personal level.I never felt pushed to do an exercise that was too hard for me.She certainly fine tunes the workout for your ability.She even helps with nutrition and meal ideas.I would recommend Cheryl to beginners like me!Or the most advanced.She is the best!!
