The gym, team and coaches here are all amazing. I have been training here regularly over the past few months and have been able to develop good relationships with the men and women here. Highly recommend to anyone wanting to learn more about combat sports or see if it's something you would enjoy.

Tons of great reviews so I’m sure the place is a good spot to train but I never got the chance. I got scheduled for a free class of Muay Thai class so I went in with high expectations due to the reviews but wasn’t met by any instructor or coach. Made eye contact with multiple people who I thought were possibly instructors but was completely ignored. Kinda weird. Been training BJJ for about two years at different gyms due to relocation for my job and never experienced something like this.

The mentorship and training here is World Class. I have had the pleasure of training with Coach Marcelo, and he is very experienced and knowledgeable in his craft. He is a tough guy but very friendy and fun to be around! The people that I train with here are amazing as well, as they are very knowledge in Brazillian Jiu Jitsu, as well as Boxing, Muay Thai, Wrestling and other martial arts. I love the vibes here, there is always something new to learn from your teammates and they always push you to be better and are there for you too. You can't go wrong choosing this gym!

The professors are extremely knowledgeable and there is a plethora of people to roll with. This is a candid from after class from 3 black belts discussing fine details. This is the caliber you encounter here at BTT Long Beach.

Marcelo is a force of a nature. Great gym, amazing team, and respectful atmosphere. My kids come to train BJJ as well and have come to love the teaching. I appreciate how the children’s’ classes reinforce the fundamentals letting children receive great instruction and material without sugar coating techniques.

My 13yo daughter has been going here for a few months and we live it. The people that run this place are amazing, the coaches truly care and are very attentive, and the parents are all really good people. The kids here are all so well behaved and they all really love participating in martial arts. So many positive and welcoming vibes here. My daughter was embraced into the family right away. We love the decision we made in joining BTT.

For the past two years, I have had two of my kids enrolled in the kids program class offered at the Brazilian Top Team in Long Beach. The senior coach, Marcelo Perdomo, is a very knowledgeable teacher who really cares for the individual growth of each student--he truly challenges each student to do their very best AND to achieve the most they can. My two kids have already competed in a few tournaments and brought a couple of medals home. My wife and I are very happy with our kids overall progress: physically, mentally, and character development. If I could, I would give these guys double digit stars for the awesome work they are doing. God bless!!!

Joining this team has been a great experience. Professor Marcelo is a great teacher andis very dedicated to his craft. I appreciate the attention to detail, and Professor Marcelo's emphasis on technique. The best part about this academy are the people. The higher belts are always willing to help out the lower belts and share their knowledge freely. At this academy you can learn without feeling intimidated, you will train with world class practitioners, and be taught by one of the best, Marcelo Perdomo. You will meet a good group of guys and gals and you will feel you are part of the team.

With a world class coaching staff, top of the line training facility, and culture focused on respect, safety, and competition, it's no wonder BTT of Long Beach is the best rated jiu jitsu academy in the area.I've had the pleasure of training here since the beginning of the year (2019) and don't think I'll ever leave. If you're looking around for a jiu jitsu academy, you've probably read very similar comments to the one I made above but here are 3 very unique reasons why I love BTT of Long Beach.Exposure to Higher Belts -Higher belts are instructed to, when possible, pair up with lower belts for training and sparring/rolling. As a white belt, this is HUGE. I've trained in academies where white belts only train with other white belts or don't get to roll at all; after training here, I can see how that stunted my learning and appreciation for BJJ. The ability to train with guys/girls more experienced than me has helped me learn so much faster than my previous attempts at other academies and I can't imagine not doing it.Team Culture and Community -The ability to train with higher belts has played a huge part in developing my BJJ game, but I'd argue the culture at BTT has played an even bigger role. Specifically, as soon as we're on the mats, we're instructed to behave with respect, safety, and competitiveness in mind - in that order. Why does this matter? In short, it allows everyone to train their hardest while minimizing the chances of physical injury or damaged egos - both equally detrimental to anyone's BJJ career. You might be thinking, "Well, I'll just be safe and I'll be ok anywhere." That is NOT the case. You'll always be training with someone and if they're not on the same page, you won't be anymore protected than you would be being reckless yourself. This is especially true for new white belts who unknowingly focus on the competitive aspect of BJJ. BTT's culture does a great job of establishing the right priorities when training to keep the team safe and active.Teaching Style -Lastly, and probably my most favorite part, is the teaching style at BTT. Specifically, you won't find any lackluster, "here for a check" instructors at BTT; instead, you're going to find instructors passionately looking to elevate their own level by elevating their training partners (i.e. you) and thus the whole team. This all begins with head coach Marcelo, who's anything but a typical instructor. You'll never get the impression that he's dialing it in and reading out of BJJ book; instead you'll get a no-nonsense breakdown of techniques, specific advice on how to adapt the techniques to your specific game, and sometimes a funny story or joke that ties everything together. This teaching style is one that is shared between all the instructors at BTT and is the backbone of the success they've seen over the years. If you still have your doubts, come check it out for yourself. Oss!
