Located at 2 Garfield Ave, Jersey City, NJ, Retro Fitness offers an extensive range of gym equipment with convenient operating hours, making it accessible almost every day from early morning to late evening. Nestled in the Twin City Shopping Center, this gym provides a variety of group fitness classes and ensures ample parking space, even during peak hours. The staff is generally friendly, and the gym maintains a clean environment, including the bathrooms, enhancing the workout experience. Free parking availability adds to the convenience for the members.
However, Retro Fitness seems to struggle with administrative and operational issues, including difficulty in membership cancellation and sudden unauthorized charges. Treadmills are hard to find one that works properly poor maintenance. The cleaning lady is very good but the front desk. Nicole and Nadia are the best. Very attentive and always with a smile on the face.

Convenience in location is key to me here. It's right off 14a and around the corner from the port. People working the front desk are always very polite and friendly. I've witnessed some of the members become out of line and the owner quickly correct them by speaking with them to pulling their memberships. You can't blame the owner for bad members but at least I've seen him keep the bad ones in line to keep the rest of the members at peace. Overall it's a good gym for the money and good mix of clean equipment. My only suggestions to the owner is if they could get some more clips for the Olympic bars and a deadlift bar jack so you don't throw your back out when you're changing plates.

Super clean gym with a friendly staff and sweet new machines. I needed to find a gym and had low expectations but was so pleasantly surprised. Great deal and I love it.

Really professional, enthusiastic front desk representatives/ administrators. There is one young lady who just can’t do enough to ensure a customers satisfaction. Other clients are all business! Everyone is polite and courteous ( and I’m Canadian ! Lol ) and very helpful. COVID spacing is, from what I’ve seen, well respected at this club.

Go to another gym please. Worst gym ever... they charged me $102 to cancel my membership. The last email that I received from this gym was on March 21, and it says that they are temporarily closed. I did not received any email letting me know that my membership was resume and active. My membership was no supposed to be renew on February. Looking at the contract it’s says Jan, but the gym was paused and closed and my membership was paused. They are taking advantage of the pandemic, and taking your money

you can’t go to waste with bags, then how to change ???? some people are allowed to be without masks. I advise the management to learn how to discuss it like at Fort Lee

Went for a tour as I just moved into area. I was told by front desk they didn’t do tours on the weekend. He told me he could give me a guest pass to walk around by myself. I asked for a class schedule and rates. He told me their class schedule changes weekly so he couldn’t give me a schedule? How am I supposed to know if I want to sign up somewhere where I don’t even know if they are going to offer classes I want to take? No rates given as well.

Please read, and never become a member at any Retro Fitness. Do your research. Their gyms are outdated, dirty and very poorly kept. It's so much cheaper to build a professional home gym anyway. I called numerous times to cancel my membership. After giving me a very hard time explaining how to cancel. They asked me to send certified letter with the cancellation. I called a month later and they are still charging me and claim that they did not get the certified letter. I called numerous times and each time I was either left on hold or transferred to their corporate office who always told me to contact my gym. On my last call to cancel the membership I was still being charged for. I have tried to be as professional as possible, but it is impossible at this point. And now they sent me to a collection agency because I stopped the payments and got tired of getting charged from them.

I’m reading some of these comments and I’m just laughing, no gym is perfect, there either too crowded or too empty, too cluttered or not enough equipment. Make the best of what you have around you. I don’t come to the gym for my experience with the people at the desk 😅🤦🏾♂️😭. All gyms have their pros and cons, read the contract before you sign up. And if your not gonna go often you still have to expect to get charged. 😂

I previously left a good review of this place, but I am now changing my review. I just recieved a call from a credit agency saying that I owe $200 even though I cancelled my membership in May when I moved to Texas. In addition to the monthly fee they charged me late fees and an annual fee. These people are some of the most inept and unethical people I've ever encountered. Do not sign up for a membership here because they will male it impossible to leave. If I could give them less than one star I would. I spoke with Nadia on the phone and she was helpful in explaining the issue, but the fact that they charged me for services not used after I cancelled is disgraceful. Do not sign up for a membership here....
