Today I got an email from 12th State thanking me for being a member for one year. I am just about 47 years old, have never been remarkably active or physically fit, and in May 2021 was weighing in at 224 when I sent a plea for help to Mollie at 12th State. I wanted a group environment to push me, and hands on training to make sure that push was safe. I’d heard all the negatives about this type of training, but also was intrigued as it seemed to be exactly what I was looking for. I was super insecure about this, but the Google and Facebook reviews were so positive and they all said the same thing: Hands on coaching, safe environment, able to scale to your abilities and still push your limits, with an amazing community of both coaches and members. My first workout was a mix of box steps ups, single arm dumbbell cleans, burpees, and ring rows. I couldn’t do more than two burpees in a row without needing a break. I thought I was going to die when I was done. But Coach Whitney and every member there were so supportive, I couldn’t help but come back for another go. The next session was Gwen, and I barely managed to get through it using only the barbell.A year later, I’m down to 207 lbs. I can run a 5K. I’ve successfully completed a 100 burpee WOD for time, and today I hit a 155# clean and jerk (A year ago I’d have told you a clean and jerk was something very different, for sure). All of this may sound like nothing to the average athlete. But if you’re like I was a year ago: older, completely out of shape, uneducated about fitness, intimidated as hell, and unsure where to turn…I suggest you turn to 12th State CrossFit.Every coach is amazing, professional, and has provided me insight on how to safely improve my performance. Not a bad seed in the bunch. The facility is super clean, well managed, and Mollie and Dale (owners) really care about the members on a personal level. And all the members here are just great people. I owe a lot of my progress in the last year to the support from the community. Whether you’re an experienced athlete, or like me and the total opposite, this is the box to join.

I've attended a handful of sessions at 12th State and already grateful for my time here. From the second you step through that door, a coach is present to greet you and the community is readily supportive. The facility is clean, up-to-date, and well equipped. I also appreciate that there is a significant focus on proper form, safety, and appropriate scaling options for the WODs. As someone who is in her early 30s and is just getting back into crossfit after 4 years, I value the coaches' attentiveness and feedback while you're working out. Even simple conversations on whether and how far I should challenge myself (or scale back) are beneficial. Helps me feel reassured that my foundations are sound while I work my way to more technically advanced movements.

This is the best CrossFit box with the best owners and members. They treat their athletes like family. Coaches Whitney and Benji are top notch and truly spent time with you to ensure your technique improves and help you to work around old injuries.

I was down in Raleigh visiting a friend. I'm a member at a crossfit box at home and chose this gym, while on vacation, to drop into and bring by friend to his first class. The members were welcoming and the coach was attentive, helpful, and nice. Would reccomend. PS, parking is across the street, we didn't see it at first and had to move our car.

I absolutely cannot recommend this gym more. The owners and coaches are fantastic in every way! They are knowledgeable, experienced, and great teachers who care about their athlete's fitness and progression. The community they have cultivated is unmatched. The members are friendly, fun and treat you like family. The causes and charities this gym supports positively impacts our local community, and the events they put on are always a blast. Plus, the facility is large, up-to-date and clean, and there are more class times to choose from than any gym I have been a member of or visited, and they are open 6 days a week and have 3 fitness paths to choose from depending on your goals. They Post gymnastic clinics and lifting clinics and nutritional challenges and even have kids/teen classes, custom programming, in-house sports massage, and nutritionists available! Best gym in Raleigh!

I dropped in from out of town just for one work out literally on my way in the middle of the road trip. This gym is fantastic, the members are so kind and welcoming, and the coaches are energetic and encouraging and knowledgeable. The gym is very clean and well equipped. Highly recommend to anyone passing through, or looking for a box to call home.
