The Spokane Valley YMCA - YMCA of the Inland Northwest provides a wide variety of fitness services, including weights, cardio, and swimming facilities. With clean equipment and friendly staff, it offers classes for all ages and fitness levels. Membership comes with perks like two free hours of childcare, making it a convenient option for families.

However, some members have raised concerns about the gym's air conditioning and inconsistent pool temperatures. Additionally, many have experienced issues with the daycare's staff turnover and availability of facilities. Despite these drawbacks, the YMCA remains a popular community gym with a lot to offer.

Very disappointed in the interaction we just had with front staff when we went to buy day passes to swim with our kids. We are new to the area and have been wanting to join the YMCA, but now we will look elsewhere. I called ahead to make sure open swim was available. Upon walking in, the front desk workers were annoyed to have to help people. We told them we were there to swim for the day and they sighed and said to eachother, is the open swim even open. I explained I just called and was told it was. They then proceed to ask for IDs from my husband and I, which I brought mine, but my husband did not because we were swimming. He said, I don't know ow what to tell you, you have to have your ID to swim. I understand policies and rules, but front desk staff should be welcoming, inviting and apologetic when they have to turn people away.

If I could rate this a 0 I would. They are NOT family friendly. The pool is hardly open for kids even though there are lifeguards all over, I am swimming with them AND my kids can swim full laps. It is ridiculous. They call it “independent exercise time” but don’t allow kids who can swim to do independent exercise. They randomly close childcare without having it updated anywhere online day to day so you go to workout and then can’t because there is no childcare. It is a waste of time. So we can’t do childcare because it’s closed sometimes, we can’t swim because…they say so, and then let me add we can’t do basketball half the time because they have pickle ball in the afternoon for hours. They are SO strict with the mask mandate. My husband and I were the ONLY ones in the gym and doing HIIT workout with our masks under our nose and they came and made us put them over our noses. So if you do go here, get a mesh mask if you plan on breathing hard during your workout so you don’t pass out. But if you are “playing basketball” you don’t have to wear them, it makes no logical sense. Forget “family friendly” gym and start marketing as “geriatric friendly”. Photo is when we weren’t allowed to swim although there were lifeguards…..

Only went here one time & it was the worst gym experience I’ve ever had. There was only 1 squat rack & 1 smith machine. The smith machine was too close to the wall to do hip thrusts & I dropped it from a standing position & it took a solid 30 seconds to go down to waste level. ( aka a weird residence that shouldn’t be there) The squatting rack was taken for over an hour by someone who was do 90% of their workout with dumbbells & on the floor, but hogged the machine for some reason. ( not proper gym etiquette ) The cardio machines & other workout machines are way too close together! I was almost hitting the person next me on the elliptical.Giving it 3 stars bc of all this, but child watch was good.
