They are crooks and won’t let you cancel your membership. I had a situation that required me to promptly move back to TX. They will not let you cancel unless you pay back charges and will keep accruing membership fees.I offered to pay a prorated amount for the month I was partially in Florida and the guy at the front desk who is arrogant; and likes to talk down to you like you are stupid… said no and would not work with me.Well not I am gonna go to the consumer financial protection bureau and FTC to open a billing case because this cannot be right with their billing practices. They spam you with a collections agency in Kansas that has ironically no authority to cancel the membership but will gladly take your money.I am at $140 in dues that keep accumulating each month. So yeah… this is ridiculous. Don’t get a membership here because they used the shoddiest and shadiest billing practices you can imagine.

As a Veteran I had to change my view from 5 to 1. I joined epic in January with a yearly contract. In February a previous injury from a deployment became worsened. Enjoying the gym I asked how long you can put your status on hold (I didn’t want to cancel) I was informed 30 days anything longer would have to get management approved. I continue to receive Cortizone shots in my hip to continue daily life. April rolls around I find out. I have a pinched nerve in my L4 adding to the hip injury. I find out June 1 that I will need surgery at the end of the month because the Cortizone shots are no longer affective. Coming to the conclusion that I will now be unable to do much for the next 6 to 7 months on the minimum after having this major surgery. I again ask if there’s anything that can be done but considering there’s only six months left on my contract would overlap. I was informed I would be charged for not giving them 30 days and a $75 cancellation fee. I proceed to bring in medical paperwork from the Veteran affairs hospital. To show proof that I have this injury. As a veteran on a fixed income with a pretty serious injury who is unable to work out, I thought they would cut me some slack and just waive it and say thank you for your service. Instead, they told me I still have to pay the cancellation but not for this month. This is an injury that is out of my control and no part me wants to have to have major surgery or be able to not continue my healthy lifestyle. $75 isn’t a lot but it is when you won’t be able to work or do anything for over half of a year. The only sympathy I got was I’m not gonna argue with you right now I need to continue my workout. I have never felt so disrespected by an establishment in my entire life. I did my due diligence by trying to find multiple solutions and continue as long as I could. I don’t expect handouts, but I do expect sympathy for those that have been injured Defending the country. I could not recommend any veteran to ever come to this gym for if you were injured, they don’t care they see you as a number and money.

Great equipment courteous buff dudes and buff chicks Great equipment and they actually allow us to compete with high scores in lifting I would give five stars if they had a sauna .

Friend gave me pass to check out the place and the staff were courteous showing me around, nice equipment and a good-size place. Being overweight and on my journey to lose pounds, not get a 6-pack, I found the abs and gun shows plastered throughout quite intimidating... I don't want a 6 pack I just want to drop pounds.. so not the right fit.. but if you want that ripped physique they even have posing classes for those that do (didn't see any for beginners). My journey will be elsewhere but a great place if ya want that ripped bod.

Great gym. I absolutely hated Crunch St. Pete in the morning crowds. I can go anytime of day and Epic feels great. I'm very routine and hate swapping exercises due to lack of equipment. Glad I made the swap to Epic

Wanted to add to my review: I’ve been lifting for years but wanted to refresh my routine so did a the free fitness assessment with Andrew and it’s been a great experience. He asked plenty of questions to get to learn my goals and the included program he wrote was right on par to what I wanted. I ended up signing up for a few personal training sessions to learn new movements and he’s been a great teacher so far and I can tell he cares about helping clientsGlad they took over the old retro space. They definitely revamped it for the better. Im loving the new equipment and they have some unique machines I’ve never used before.

For being a new gym, alot of the equipment is old from the previous gym that was there so it's painted over and outdated. Some is new & unique to alot other gyms which helps and the gym is kept clean. But the old equipment desperately needs to be updated for me to make the switch to this one. Its a no for me.

I have enjoyed coming here since they took over the Retro Fitness. Spotless gym, very friendly staff, not crowded, equipment is all new (or at least excellent condition). Much better than the other gyms in the area that are dirty, old, and crowded.

Disclaimer: I was offered a free shirt to write a review -- I don't believe that offer changed what I'm about to say. $10-20 is not enough compensation to be a liar.I am motivated to write this review because I believe a properly run business that offers great value to customers should be rewarded for its efforts. If you liked Retro Fitness at this location, you will like Epic Health and Fitness St Pete. It's like Retro Fitness but better. Here are some ways it's good like Retro Fitness:* Cool A/C with heavy fan usage* Volume of music is not high* Ellipticals have the longest stride length I've found anywhereHow it's good unlike Retro Fitness:* The personal training only area is now open to all members* They're getting new equipment this month including a hack squat* I believe they're getting another squat rack. This should greatly reduce time spent waiting for an open squat rack* Hypothetically, there should be less crowding, less time waiting for equipment. Cheap memberships + free guests is a recipe for wasting your time. Your time equals money. It's better to pay a bit more for a gym membership than sit around waiting for stuffSeeing is believing. Just do the free gym session they offer, and see for yourself. It will be instantly clear that this is an excellent gym to use.
