I LOVE the Xtend Barre studio in Old Town Alexandria! The studio is always very clean and inviting, all the front desk people are friendly, they don't treat you as "just another student", they actually know your name and make you feel welcome. They have multiple classes throughout the day which makes it easy if you have a busy schedule. The barre classes are amazing, they have helped me improve my balance, make me more flexible, and burn calories. Definitely a great investment!

After trying what seems like every other barre studio in NoVa, I made my way to Xtend Old Town and 12 classes later, I definitely feel I saved the best for last. The workouts here are fun and challenging, and it's clear the instructors put a lot of thought and creativity into designing each class so things never feel repetitive. Compared to other studios, Xtend incorporates more cardio into their barre classes, and the instructors always offer modifications so you can dial down or dial up the intensity if you want to. Overall, you'll sweat, you'll shake, and when it's over, you'll be glad you did!

I have taken barre classes at several studios in Alexandria and DC (and previously in Philadelphia and New York), and Xtend Barre Old Town is definitely one of my favorite barre studios! The staff is very friendly and helpful (even when I've arrived to class late a few times). I have been to several classes at Xtend, and have found that every class is uniquely challenging. The instructors always change up the routine, so I never do the same workout twice. Also, the classes offer a good mix of cardio, strength and flexibility training. The instructors are always energetic and encouraging and willing to help students improve their form. I highly recommend to anyone looking for a challenging, yet fun workout in the Alexandria area!

I'm not particularly proud of this fact, but I never really worked out. I decided after some minor health issues that I wanted to feel like I had some control over my health and I wanted to do what I could to hopefully remain as healthy as possible. I have never taken any group type classes and I have only had a brief gym membership that I used maybe once...I wanted to find something that would increase my energy and give me some muscle tone, but most of all, I knew I needed to find something that I would not quit and that I could stick to. I had heard of barre classes and did some research in the area to compare cost, class times, and reviews. Based on those things I picked Xtend Barre in Alexandria. My first class was an eye opener. I knew I had terrible endurance but when I had to quit not even halfway through class I knew it was worse than I thought. I felt defeated and embarrassed and thought of never coming back. At the same time, I felt like I had something to prove to myself. Thankfully, the front desk girl reached out to me after class to check on me and the owner reached out as well. I never expected that and I got reassurance that I'm not the first person that had to take a break from class, and they gave me some tips for any future classes that gave me some hope. I learned basics like the fact that I should probably hydrate better (like I said, I'm new at this), that I can skip advancements or start with modifications of certain moves, and that I can take breaks if I need them etc. I feel like some of the pressure I had put on myself was taken off and I decided to get over my own insecurities and go back. I'm happy to report that I made it through the entire second class and every class since then. I have been going for about 9 months now and am so very glad I stuck with it. Here are some reasons I love this barre studio:-The instructors are awesome. They motivate you, they are kind, they are experienced and they make you feel welcome every time. I am definitely on the shy side but I still feel like I am part of this group.-The classes are challenging but doable. One thing an instructor said early on in a class stuck with me "it doesn't get easier, but you get better". There are still parts I find more challenging than others but I love the variety and the sense that every class is different, but always targeting all parts of my body. Some days I feel like I can take most of the advancements, other days I take pretty much none and stick to the basics, but I know that that's ok too. I know just showing up and sticking to this routine is half the battle. And surprising even myself, I look forward to coming most days, and on the days I'm dragging, I am still always glad I came afterwards.-The schedule is great for me. I work pretty regular hours and feel like I am able to catch a class most days if I want to and some on the weekend as well.-Results. I didn't really start this for weight loss, more for health and toning, so I can only speak to those things (for the weight loss I would probably need to target my carb habit more). I feel like I definitely have better muscle definition than before, and I have seen an increase in energy and endurance. I have also seen an improvement in my resting heart rate and also feel like it's been a good addition to manage stress and anxiety. The combination of cardio and toning through weights, movement, resistance bands etc. is just the right amount of everything to feel like you're getting a good full body workout. In conclusion, the only thing that would have held me back from writing such a glowing review is the fear that everyone will start seeing the light and filling up all the classes..But I'm honestly more than happy to recommend this place to anyone who will listen!

I've been going to Xtend Barre Old Town for almost a year. I started going one or two times a week and left so sore that I knew it must be doing something. This is not your average barre class. After a few months I started going more and more regularly and eventually became totally addicted to the workout. The community there is amazing and even an introverted person like me has made a few workout buddies. As someone who looks forward to things like wine, cheese, and Netflix, (and more wine) I never thought I would ever be someone who looks forward to working out... this place has literally changed my life. And a bonus- I've lost 15 pounds since I started at Xtend without changing my questionable eating and drinking habits! ;)

If you want lean muscles and increase your core strength, you have to go to Xtend Barre Old Town. The class instructors are friendly and absolutely amazing, offering a variety of classes (Barre, HIIT, TRX Suspend, Pilates Stick) throughout the day, and never repeating the same routine. During class they help with correcting your form, while making you feel comfortable and confident. Xtend Barre Old Town is the best barre studio!

I’ve been with this studio for over two years now. My sister and I joined together and we fell in love with the workouts. It is the only workout that can motivate me to wake up for 5:45am classes. This studio offers barre classes, yoga, TRX suspend, and circuit 7 (which is a high intensity workout). The instructors are each incredible and the variety in workouts keeps my body getting stronger. This studio gives me the opportunity to keep healthy and a barre family that makes me look forward to my early alarm.

XtendBarre has been the best workout for me to date! The variety of classes and instructors is amazing. If you look for a mixture of ballet, yoga, Pilates, balancing and strength you need to try XtendBarre old town. A great bonus is that all the instructors are amazing and it is a really fun community. #xtendbarreoldtown

I bought a class pass voucher on Gilt City to try this gym. I was interested in yoga mainly. I wasn't a huge fan of the instructors as they spoke very fast and were difficult to follow for a beginner. I tried a barre class as well and the instructor also was difficult to follow.Perhaps this gym just wasn't a good fit for me. Also a bummer that the voucher I purchased expired before I could use all the passes since yoga was offered so infrequently.I wouldn't recommend driving to get here as parking nearby is quite difficult. Either walk or take metro/a bus.

Best barre workout in the area. Surprisingly worked all of this barre aficionado's least used muscles. Every class is different. Great instructors and cutest barwear! Be prepared to sweat!
