The gym has good atmosphere to workout but unfortunately, they want to withdraw money from you even when you cancel the membership and there's so many hidden fees.

The mixed reviews initially gave me pause, but I decided to check out Crunch Ypsi in person, and I am so glad I did. This review is gonna be long and detailed--hopefully it will be useful to you.For the record, I am a mid-30s white LGBTQ female, formerly athletic body type, currently recovering from injury and so I've gained weight and lost a lot of muscle and stamina. I also haven't been to a gym since college, so I'd forgotten how virtually all of the machines work.My primary goal was finding a gym where I could work out, recover, and get stronger, while not feeling so self-conscious or anxious that I stopped going. I'm someone who still has to fight off the feeling that everyone is staring at me, so working out in front of other people was something I was very nervous about trying again.I signed up for the free three-day pass, worked up my courage, and went on a weekday morning. I was immediately greeted by Keely, who was super friendly and genuinely seemed excited that I was trying out the gym. I asked about the mixed reviews, and Keely explained that management had changed recently, and that in her opinion, things in general were much better now. (I also asked two more staff members on other days and they gave similar answers--so if you are worried about the reviews like I was, just ask! They will give your their honest opinions and are not afraid to talk about it.) Keely also offered me a tour of the gym, which I accepted. The first thing I noticed was that the people working out looked to be from all walks of life: all ages, races, genders, and levels of fitness. That gave me the vibe that this location is one where it's important to the staff that you feel comfortable and safe no matter who you are or what you look like.I asked A LOT of questions about the membership options, how some of the machines worked, general policies of the gym, and so on. Keeley answered everything I wanted to know and even pointed out things I had no idea existed at the gym--the most exciting for me being TWO mirrored rooms that are technically for fitness classes, but anyone can use them if there isn't a class in session. I'm a dancer, so this immediately screamed STUDIO SPACE to me. Where else are you gonna find virtually open-access studio time for around $10-15 a month??I came back twice more, tried out some equipment (all was very clean and well-maintained), and danced in each of the rooms. The one with a smooth floor is HUGE and there were a couple other people also doing their own thing in there. We didn't bother each other. The one with a rubber floor is a spin class room, so there's less space, but I was alone so it didn't matter.By then, I was so excited about this gym that I knew I was going to sign up, which I did about a week later. The process was very easy, and I was happy to see that memberships can be paused or cancelled much more easily than at some gyms (cough, rhymes with Granite Witness). Mike at the front desk gave me another tour, this time more in-depth about the machines, and let me know that any gym employee would be happy to show me how to use the equipment if I wasn't sure. Being able to comfortably ask for help is important to me since as I said, I've forgotten most of it.I also signed up for the Kickoff, which I DEFINITELY recommend if you're not totally sure of your goals or the direction you should go. It's a (free!) meeting with a personal trainer where they go over where you are, where you want to be, and how you can get there. Ro did my kickoff and she's AWESOME--so encouraging and sweet. I immediately felt comfortable opening up to her about how bad I've been feeling about my body and how demotivating it is to try to come back from an injury. She showed me how to use specific machines that she thought would benefit me, plus a couple others that I was excited about, like the assisted pull-up machine. So, if you are looking for a comfortable and welcoming place to work out where you won't feel watched or judged, I would recommend giving Crunch Ypsi a try!

Cancellations practice requires an email they can’t do it at the desk but they can sign you up there.Gym is crowded. There is a lot of equipment but there are even more people. Expect to wait for a power rack most mornings. Cardio machines are always available.Equipment breaks frequently but is usually repaired within a week.

I joined this gym about a year ago and back then, I would have given this place a 4/5. But now, this gym has provided an awful experience. Half of the equipment is broken at any time and the staff and management is awful. When they fired my trainer, I tried to cancel future sessions, but they decided to charge me anyway. I will not be returning.

I recently visited Crunch Ypsilanti and wanted to share my experience regarding a few concerns I encountered during my visit. While the overall atmosphere and amenities were satisfactory, I did notice a few areas that need improvement. The equipment itself is good but it is not properly maintained. One of the main concerns I had was the cleanliness of the equipment. Both parts that members would be responsible for and parts that staff would be responsible for showed signs of neglect. For example, I noticed that the staff was not consistently cleaning around the base or using silicone spray on guide rods. This resulted in many things feeling "chunky" and rendered some equipment unusable. I believe it's important for the staff to prioritize regular maintenance to ensure the equipment is in proper working condition for the members.Another improvement that is needed is the availability of paper towel cleaning solution stations, particularly in the vicinity of the squat racks. I found it challenging to keep the area clean during my workout due to the lack of convenient access to cleaning supplies. Having more paper towel cleaning solution stations placed strategically throughout the gym, including near the squat racks, would greatly contribute to maintaining a clean and hygienic workout environment. One of the main issues I encountered was the presence of weights left on the floor. This made it difficult for me to find appropriate weights for warming up. I had to spend several minutes removing plates from machines to adjust the weight to my desired level. This could be discouraging and inconvenient for newcomers to the gym. It would be helpful if the staff took the initiative to ensure that weights are properly returned to their designated areas, and patrons were encouraged by staff to re rerack, promoting a more beginner-friendly environment.Another concern I noticed was that the lat pull machine was missing a pin to adjust the thigh pad. This made it challenging to achieve proper posture and comfort during my workout. I recommend that the missing pin be replaced promptly to ensure all machines are fully functional for members.Regarding the spray tan area, I found that the cleanliness could be improved. While the machine may clean itself, there were still missed spots that required human intervention for proper disinfection. Additionally, during my visit, I noticed that the trash was overflowing, and the availability of hair nets was lacking. Regular maintenance and attention to these details will help create a more hygienic and welcoming environment for members using the spray tan area.I hope that management takes these concerns into consideration and implements the necessary improvements. With these adjustments, Crunch Ypsilanti has the potential to be an outstanding gym that caters to the needs of all its members. The staff was nice! Maybe they need to hire more people to clean or retrain current staff.

Even though I'm disabled, the staff and patrons were friendly and encouraging as I recover from cancer.

I go here regularly as a guest, and a year ago it was a pretty decent gym and one I would recommend to friends. However things have not been as nice lately. Today there was no one here to open the gym, at 6am, an hour after doors were supposed to be open. According to other regulars in the parking lot, this isn’t the first time this has happened as of late.Secondly, the crowd that comes into this location has recently become more obnoxious and disrespectful to other people’s space. I shouldn’t be able to hear someone yell at their friends, yelling lyrics or repeatedly yelling during reps, over noise cancelling headphones. Nor should I have someone grow hostile towards me because I won’t give up my spot at a machine for them.Additionally, it seems as though most of the staff that did care for this location and reprimanded the previously mentioned behavior, have left. For a membership to be $35 a month, this is intolerable. I would reconsider which gym you go to until ongoing issues have been resolved here.

I have been going here for a year and a half. This location has decreased its value greatly since I joined. I’m the beginning I would have given 4 out of 5. But over the last 6-8 months there is always something broken from gym equipment, saunas, urinals and stalls being out for weeks to months. They have chased the good employees away and now have undisciplined and lazy workers who don’t clean, organize, stock, or hold any type of responsibilities. I hope you don’t show up when they open because no one is there to let you in. Today at 550 no one was there and hours to open are 5. This is not the first, second, or third time this has happened. This place has lost business and it’s going to continue with me.

I’ve been a member here since it opened.I have met some great people and it’s a very inviting, comfortable, and welcoming environment. I have never had a bad interaction with any of the employees. Have been here hundreds of times .The GM Dan is a class act and is very kind. The staff are all great and the equipment is very good. There are some MAJOR concerns about the cleanliness of the men’s locker Room and sauna. It is Absolutely filthy. There Hasn’t been hot water in a week in the showers, and half of the tanning beds are broken. 🤔 (Not the employees fault or managers) the owner being cheapHey owner - spend the money and fix stuff and stop being so cheap!!! Buy a deck scrubber for the locker rooms for the employees. There is zero chance I’m removing my shoes in the sauna and gonna catch athletes foot for the tenth time here. I wouldn’t feel comfortable going bare footed with flip flips in the sauna. Too filthy. The 4 stars is VERY kind of me because the staff and equipment are great . The managers are kind, but they don’t get the resources from the owner that they need to be successful.STOP BEING SO CHEAP OWNER !!!!FIX STUFF WHEN ITS BROKEN!!!Staff -A+Managers- A+Dan GM- A+Trainers-A+ ( I don’t use the training services, but I know most of them. This was my gym for the past 2 years and I loved it! The staff was very supportive and helpful. Anytime I had an issue, the manager, Rachel, went above and beyond to help me resolve it. Adrianne was such a sweetheart and was always very friendly when I was checking in. The equipment was great and the gym was always clean. If I hadn’t gotten stationed somewhere else, this would still be my gym. Excellent customer service and excellent facility!! Keep up the great work guys!
