Located at the University of Michigan, the Intramural Sports Building offers a variety of workout options including cardio, strength training, basketball, and racquetball. The facility, beautifully renovated, provides top-of-the-line equipment and great fitness classes. The building is large and clean, with respectful staff and ample space, making it a great place to host tournaments.

The building is free for Michigan students, which is a big draw. However, it can get overcrowded at the start of each semester, making it difficult to use the equipment. Maintenance can also be an issue, especially with the cardio machines. Despite these drawbacks, it remains a popular choice for students and sports enthusiasts.

Pros:

  • Free for Michigan students
  • Wide variety of workout options
  • Beautiful renovation
  • Clean facilities
  • Respectful staff
  • Large space for tournaments
  • Great fitness classes
  • Top-of-the-line equipment
  • Late hours make it less crowded

Cons:

  • Can get overcrowded at semester starts
  • Issues with cardio machine maintenance
  • UM Rec Sports app could be improved

I had a great time here! The equipment is in great shape and there's so much to do here (cardio, strength training, basketball, track, racquetball, etc.) and it's FREE for Michigan students! It's a bit of a walk for me BUT I'm not fazed by that. Will that change in the winter once I encounter snow? Possibly...

the battles that are fought over the two (2) multipurpose rooms are insane and the queue for the racquetball courts brings out the worst in people

Great facility. I wish the UM Rec Sports app functioned better. I've spent as much as 15 mins trying to just get the app to work for signing in.

The building is huge and offers a lot of workout options. The reason I am not giving 5 stars is due to lack of maintenance for the cardio machines. For example, the rowing machines haven't been working properly for the past 6 months and no maintenance happened to them.

There are plenty of options for different workout equipment as well as basketball courts if you like to hoop. Often, you will find it to be very busy, especially in the mornings, but later at night, especially near closing time, it's far more free.

The Intramural Sports Building is a really nice facility with top of the line equipment and great fitness classes. The gym is very clean and everyone is respectful. The basketball courts are in great condition. The summer is generally the best time to use the facility because most of the students are away. The start of each semester brings a massive surge of people and makes it difficult to get in a decent workout without battling for equipment - even the fitness classes get overcrowded.

Renovation is beautiful. Staff are always very nice.If you're looking for some good pickup basketball competition on campus, this is the place. Four beautiful basketball courts make it so you'll never have to wait long to get in some action. Training room is also very nice with everything you need for a good workout.I would definitely recommend going here to keep in shape. I lived in Alice Lloyd on the hill but still found my way to the IM building quite often.

Was here with my daughter whom played in the FAAST Basketball Tournament. The facilities were great for them to host the games there. 4 full length courts and plenty of space.
