From day one of just signing up everyone at John’s gym has been really friendly. After signing up I got tons of messages welcoming me to the team. I’ve trained at several gyms for Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai and I can tell you their instructors know what they are talking about. There has been no harshness and instruction is detail oriented. I’m very glad with my choice to join here and I look forward to growing with the team.

My 17 year old son joined John's Gym 3 weeks ago. I have to say, that from the moment we first visited to now, I feel very confident in the instructors and staff at John's Gym . My son is a beginner and they eliminated any insecurities he and I had that usually comes along with joining a gym. My son is excited to go and he learns something new to improve his skills everyday that he is able to go. I highly recommend John's Gym at every level.

Amazing facilities, remarkable coaching and even better people! When becoming a member at John’s they will welcome you in like family. They are very patient and phenomenal at coaching people new to martial arts. This place can be an awesome opportunity for people new to Austin to meet and make friends with some high quality individuals. Also this is a true MMA gym with very high level coaching in BJJ/grappling as well as striking. Very common to be on the mat with multiple black belts in a class who are experts at their craft and can help you improve yours, while in the striking classes you get precise coaching on your technique and aren’t just hitting a bag the whole class. 5 stars, 10/10 review. Don’t hesitate and stop by and give them a try! 👊

Gave 3 stars to try being as neutral as possible since I only attended the intro free class. When I submitted my contact info expressing interest in signing up, someone from the gym responded quickly. They even followed up the day of my scheduled intro class (more than once) to confirm I’d be showing up. Went to the beginner class, which was fun and taught by a friendly, welcoming instructor. After the class, having had a chance to speak to the rep, I began to get a sneaking suspicion that this place wasn’t for me (I tried to ignore that feeling in the spirit of giving it a fair shot). I’ve trained at other boxing gyms before moving to austin and this was the first place I’d been where they said they’d charge me more if I wanted sparring or even some limited contact training. That was a little concerning, but probably not unheard of. I will say that my previous boxing gym in Corpus Christi did not charge more based on the intensity of training. Full disclosure: I did sandbag em a bit in not letting on that I had more than a couple of rounds of sparring under my belt and that it wasn’t my first rodeo. But that was was purely outta curiosity rather than trying to be sneaky or anything like that (I’m also in terrible shape so I was trying to ease back in). The more experienced folks in that class were very nice and helpful in explaining the drills, which would be awesome for someone who had never strapped em on before.Back to my motivation for this post, tho. I signed up for the free trial with every intention of giving the gym a fair shake. They are pricey but had a full gym when I was there so they’re obviously doing something right. In the end, after being too busy to return that week and having given it some thought, I concluded that I wouldn’t be going forward with a full membership. To emphasize, this decision was based on my own individual, extremely limited experience with John’s and is in no way a judgment of the quality of training offered there. But yeah, rather than mess around after having decided this gym wasn’t for me and finally having time to call during a decent hour, I tried to contact them at the number provided to inquire as to their cancellation policy. I’m still within the 30 day trial period, to be totally clear. When I called the listed #, I was informed that I’d reached an answering service and that they could not help me cancel. So I texted the # that i first received texts from when I initially expressed interest in trying the gym out. After more than 24 hours waiting for a response, I texted again. That was several hours ago and still have not gotten a response. I’m getting the feeling they might be hoping that I’ll be too busy to stop by in person before my trial period is over (which may very well happen, considering my work schedule) and I’ll be on the hook for 6 months. To reiterate, this review is meant to focus on the issues I’ve experienced with their 30 day free trial. I won’t opine on the quality of training because I did not give it a full go. Just a word of caution to those perhaps considering trying them out but who also may not have the most flexible schedule. Maybe this review will get me a phone call from them... here’s to hoping!

John's Gym is a great place to learn and grow your knowledge of mixed martial arts. If you want to learn, get in fighting shape and have some fun, this is the place for you. The boxing class challenged me physically and mentally.

If you are looking into great training facility this is the place. Have very good teachers/coaches. It is well kept up. The training is a-one. If you would like to just learn boxing fundamentals or become competitive. Also if you would like to learn jui-jitsu, this is a great place to learn at. Coach ed s are very personal with you. There is also cross training for those that would like to get into MMA and learn from some great coaches. It has great parking and is located in a small strip mall. If you get hungry or thirsty after your work out there are restaurants and a sports bar located very close. The facility has most everything in as far as weights punching bags etc. They will coach you in not only fundamentals but advance traing in either boxing or jui-jitsu, or Mixed Martial Arts. Highly recommended. First month is free.!! I have had the opportunity to observe the training in progress and can verify the level of the coaching being at the top of their level. Can attend for the first month to get yourself aclimated and to convince yourself to attend. Great place for a terrific workout. The

These guys have championed my son since he started the kids Jiu-Jitsu program last May with no previous experience in martial arts. His esteem has grown and soared! He feels so proud of himself and like his Coaches really care about, enjoy him and push him to be and do his best, which has built a huge respect in him for his coaches and the art/sport. He and his teammates have such good comradery and learn so much from each other. The training atmosphere is taken very serious and balanced out with a lot of positive reinforcement and fun. A quote that I read when researching different martial arts styles and which would be all around the most beneficial for my son led me to start considering Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu gyms for him and it was this..."Jiu-Jitsu is where the savage will learn control. The timid will learn to be strong. The outcasts become part of something great. The cocky become humbled. The commonality is we all become better. Jiu-Jitsu is for everyone."-Tom DeblassThis is exactly the kind of atmosphere I was hoping to find for him to learn in and grow from. I've felt so happy to see that be the very goal and style of the team at John's Gym and that is what made me realize this was the place for him.I'm forever grateful for what they have meant to and for my son and everything he is gaining by being apart of something that is so good for him on so many levels.

I wrote the review below about 2 years ago and we are still here and still just as amazed with this gym! I now have 3 kids all training Jiu Jitsu here as well as a husband! I love the setup of the kids class which allows for kids to move at a pace that works for them. Coach James teaches the kids in the younger class and his love for Jiu Jitsu and his passion for teaching it to the younger generation is undeniable. If you’re looking for a great gym for you or your kids, THIS IS IT!My son has been taking the kids Jiu jitsu class here for about 5 months now (and will be continuing) and has loved every second of it! The coaches here are fantastic, the owners are great down to earth people who make you feel like you're part of the family and the classes are fun. I would highly recommend this gym, and not just for their fantastic kids classes!

2-3 years ago my son started taking Jiu Jitsu classes at John’s Gym. The impact that Jiu Jitsu and the coaching staff made on my son led me to start training Jiu Jitsu. I saw his confidence building, he was getting tougher mentally and physically and I realized that I could also get similar benefits from training here. Fast forward a couple of years and now I have three kids that train here. I love the coaches at John’s Gym and am thankful to have this community to have my family be a part of.
