Came in to try the gym out tonight because I heard good things. My workout was only going to take 20 minutes as I told the guy at the desk. He charged me $15, okay cool, he tells me that's a 1 day pass. When I leave (20 minutes later) I ask the same person if I can come back tomorrow before 6pm? 1 day = 24 hours right? The same guy makes this weird thinking emoji face and says "I don't know I'll have to ask Mo". I wanted to give a local gym a chance but I think I'll stick to 24 Hour Fitness. At least there I would have got shown around and the day pass would have been for a day. I was even going to buy a t-shirt if I liked the place. Oh well keeping Austin weirded is getting harder to do I guess.

I took boxing and kickboxing classes at this gym for about a year and half and have worked with many of the instructors: Randy (gym owner), Mo, Tyler, Vaughn, Kaiden (i think?), and a few other guys that are no longer teaching there or whose names I didn't get. There was one trainer I didn't like too much (Lorenzo, no longer at the gym) but otherwise, they all have had a great attitude and are knowledgeable and experienced, and classes had a good balance between theory (bag work, drills) and practice (dutch drills, light sparring). The reality is that most people need to be hit a couple of times to be "taught" the importance of keeping your guard up, footwork, etc, and so you need the occasional sparring to develop good habits.I was concerned with head injuries and excessively violent students/instructors but I have found that, at least for the boxing and kickboxing classes, there is a healthy emphasis on control and proper technique. I really appreciated that side of the class and it was what kept me coming back. Even when Tyler was kicking my legs into jello, or Mo was slipping upper cuts through my defense, I found it instructive and helpful rather than discouraging because they had excellent control and were showing me weaknesses. If you are interested in boxing only as exercise, this is not the place to go. If you are interested in learning and practicing boxing or kickboxing technique as a fighter, you will find good and varied company here. If I wasn't leaving the city to go back to school, I'd renew my membership ($1k per year) and keep training.

I spent a year in the weight area working out and watching the boxing and kick-boxing. Finally decided to give boxing a try. Best decision I've made in many years. Great staff, coaches and support. You will find some of the best people in South Austin Gym. Best deal in town for the weight room, and none of the other gym's issues with grunting or not grunting. The cost of the boxing program is about the same as other boxing gyms. If you want to be pampered, go else where, if you want instruction and support to reach your goals, South Austin Gym is the place to be. Thanks to all the staff for the support and results.

Really great gym. There is a weight section and they have cardio machines like a traditional gym which is really nice. The boxing trainers are really fantastic. You can really tell they have put a lot of thought and work into their boxing program and they are awesome with assessing where you are at and helping you get to where you want to go. All the staff I have dealt with there has been great from day 1. Can't say enough good things about this gym!

Really great gym that I've been a member with for over a year. Awesome people too.

Visited this gym during the Fantastic Fest and thought it was a major upgrade from their old location. I have not worked out here, but the facility itself is really nice!

Good price for a simple gym. I don't attend the classes, but glad to pay less that $15 a month for some basic equipment. Though, more than half their treadmills don't work, and the bathrooms could be cleaner. Seems clear that you get what you pay for.

This is a no frills, affordable, community gym for boxers, wrestlers and lifters. If you are into no nonsense, workouts with iron weights, heavy bags and wrestling matts, and you don't like TVs and flashing lights, this is your place.

This gym is really more than a gym and I'm not saying this just because I go here. They have clean equipment and great programs. I was initially attracted to this place because they offered Muay Thai, but I've been so out of shape that just having a trainer to spar with was the best. They have motivated me so much that I'm seeing weight loss and more muscle. I just wanted to shout out to them how much they've helped me with my goal!

I am really glad that I found South Austin Gym. The place is huge, so you never have to wait on dumbbells and rarely have to work in on the machines. They have brand new cardio equipment with TVs, and huge boxing area with a full size boxing ring and wrestling mats, too. New locker room and showers are a plus! All in all, great gym.
