Recreational Sports Facility (RSF) at the University of California, Berkeley, offers a wide range of fitness and sports activities. The facility features basketball courts, weight rooms, and various exercise classes. It's popular for its spacious interiors and well-maintained equipment. However, space constraints in the weight rooms and frequent crowding during peak hours can hinder workouts. The facility is known for its cleanliness and friendly staff, though some customer service experiences have been negative.
RSF is generally well-received for its amenities but has room for improvement in customer service and crowd management. The membership pricing is higher for non-students, and the gym's expansive hours cater well to early and late-night exercisers.
Pros:
- Spacious facility with various sports activities.
- Well-maintained and new equipment.
- Ideal for group exercises.
- Clean premises.
- Friendly staff (varies).
- Extended operational hours.
- Good climate control.
- Ample parking.
- Affordable for students.
- Competitive environment.
Cons:
- Frequent crowding and long lines.
- Some customer service issues.
- Expensive for non-students.

The Berkeley rsf has been one of the worst experiences I have ever experienced in my entire life. I traveled 1 hour from my house to come here just to stopped by the front desk. The front desk was incredibly racist to me and refused me entry. They stopped me from sneaking in the entrance even though I walked in after my friend. They then profiled me and asked me if I have my id card. Then they started getting extremely disrespectful to me and said I could tell them my id number which I obviously did not have. The rsf staff should all be fired from their job from stopping me from sneaking into the rsf. All my homies hate the rsf

Great gym with nice staff. The class I took here was amazing but it is a bit expensive. You get what you pay for!

My favorite gym of all timeWas super cheap when I was a student, like $10 per year lolAfterwards it got pretty expensive, like i was paying around 90 dollars a month? But the facilities have everything that you would need , and the basketball court her super flushed out with a lot of activity there.

The gym itself is good. I went there for years when I was a student. However the woman at customer service is a total ****, there’s no other way to say it. I have a disability and she treated me like I was a) stupid b) not worthy of her time. I’m talking about the middle-upper aged woman with grey hair. She shouldn’t be working in customer support with a “tough skin” like that. To put it nicely.

Way too busy at all times of the day. Campus admin really needs to construct additional workout areas somewhere because there are lines for almost every machine

I stopped by the RSF today and was rudely greeted by a plump, POC girl who intercepted me and told me no backpacks were allowed after I already scanned in my student card at the entrance. I’ve previously brought my bag in just fine (I suppose it looks like a mix between traditional backpack and one-shoulder schoolbag) so I was confused and asked if this policy has always existed. She rolled her eyes at me, repeated herself in a demeaning tone, and escaped to her seat behind the desk.I have two issues here that I want to address, a) RSF, please list your policies more accurately if they have changed—or if enforcement has changed and make them transparent from the get-go and b) hire people who actually want to be there. When I first started going to the RSF, the front desk had many friendly faces, so today was quite a shock. To the girl who obviously was having a bad day, remember to treat others the way you want to be treated; I certainly don’t owe you anything.

Had a very bad experience here. I was kicked out because I brought my son. It was the way I was kicked out that bothered me. It was done extremely aggressively and very rude. Very rude verbally too. When I told the manager that I don’t have a babysitter and if I can just stretch with my son, he rudely said: “that’s too bad” “get out now” he said. My son, me, we never went back. I was a student and it’s not right how they treated us.

The building itself is pretty nice. Big facility, but could allocate much more space to weight rooms. They weight rooms they have are way too small for the amount of people it caters to, creating crammed conditions and long line for machines. The lines into the weight room can extend very far, making it hard to get in a workout if you prefer to lift weights. Would be a much better experience if there were at least one more room added with more general equipment (benched, dumbells, squat racks) rather than specific machines.
