Wanted to do technical boxing/BJJ and was told by the "gentleman" working-- after he looked me up amd down that I would be allowed to do cardio kickboxing (not technical and not mitt work- no skill building). Staff was very rude. I went to an intro bjj night and given no instructions by the staff other than "roll". Would recommend if you know someone who already goes there (so you dont just get stared at angrily) and kickboxing looked great for instructed cardio (but not for becoming fight-ready). Staff was insanely rude/ignoring you (didnt meet Butch) the 3 times I attended. Two of the other students were outstanding with trying to introduce/include me, and were patient and kind. But the staring, and overall hostile environment was not ideal if I'm going to pay to be there.

A relaxed atmosphere with friendly and welcoming people. They were nice enough to let me stop in and train with them for the evening while I was traveling for work. I will definitely be back if I'm in the area again.

Great gym, great people. I started bringing my kids there over three years ago to bullyproof them, and now I haven't had problems of that nature for a long time. Some of my kids moved on to adult class, so I didn't have an excuse not to take class myself and have been training with Butch for over a year now. You won't find a better instructor or person than him. Also have to give shout outs to the other great instructors: Benji: Krav Maga, James Jenkins: Kids, Justin Turner: Friday class, Brian: No gi, James Mabon: Cardio kickboxing. and any others I may have forgotten.

I have trained with Butch Hiles Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and MMA in Charleston WV for over 2 years. I initially started training because I wanted to lose weight and I had always been interested in martial arts but never actually tried any of them. In the beginning I was nervous because I figured that people that had been training for a while would just beat up on me, but what I found out was the exact opposite. Everyone had a great attitude and they were really helpful. Butch is a great teacher and he really tries to bring out the best in his students. I would recommend Butch Hiles BJJ and MMA to anyone who is looking for quality training in a fun and friendly environment. So if your in the Charleston WV area you should definitely stop by and check out the gym, I promise you won't be disappointed.
