Have had a bad experience with this gym the moment I signed up and I would like to speak to someone regarding my issue. Back December of 2021 my siblings and I purchased and year membership for my mother at the retro fitness on Irving park in Chicago. The manager Nancy helped me set it up and told me it’s would be 400 dollars for a FULL year membership, which included and additional free three months since I purchased a full year. Fast forward a month later and I get charged 400 dollars again, I spoke to ABC financial and was told they can’t refund me the money unless I spoke to the club. That same day I went to the club and spoke to Nancy in person and She was NO HELP at all and didn’t seem to want to help me. My account was over drafted and I had no choice but to run it with my bank. A few weeks later my mother gets a text instructing her to call ABC financial , once speaking with ABC I was made aware that Nancy set me up for a 34 month plan at 400 dollars a month. That was not the initial agreement that I had made with Nancy, 400 dollars a month is ridiculous who pays that much for a gym membership , I just want to write this email to make you aware of this situation because my Sister in law had a similar situation and it seem like your staff is careless about peoples money ! I will like a full refund and I would like to cancel my membership completely!This has just been an over all terrible experience.

This gym and corporation is run by the worst people. Extremely predatory business practices that charge you after you cancel because you didn’t jump through the hoops for cancellation. You can bet they won’t tell you what those are until you directly ask. I had to dispute the payments with my credit card company to get my money back and put an end to it.There’s also a guy working there that cannot stop checking out all of the girls. I’m not the only one who noticed this pervert…be careful if you’re there at a less crowded time.Edit: Thanks for the generic reply and half-hearted attempt to show others you care! Clowns :)

This gym is horrible. I havent not step in for over a year. Everytime i try to cancel my membership they freeze it. I call the ABC finance if they receive my letter and didnt say anything. The charge me every month plus the yearly renew membership charge yesterday. their customer service is poor.. It is a scam

Do not get a membership here. They will take your money and lie to you about what you are purchasing. I paid for a full year membership in advance and after paying $400 they charged $400 again a month later. After calling ABC Financial they informed me that Retro had set me up with a 34 month membership at $400 per month. Speaking to customer service is a joke and the employees here do not care. Honestly feels like a scam is happening here. They are not accredited on the Better Business Bureau and also have a failing grade on it. Do not get a membership here.

Find another gym!! Read these reviews about canceling. Requiring a hand written letter in 2022!!, what a joke!! So many of us have been charged after dropping off the letter, and refused a refund. Retro does not respond and only offers condolences for stealing money. Ineptitude does not excuse unethical or straight up stealing.

Face mask policy is not enforced at all upstairs. Need to say reminders to wear it correctly/put it on. Saw about 3-4 people not wearing them at all today.

Lowkey place to workout which is nice. Solid equipment too. The managers are bossy and manipulative, the contracts sus too and you'll be charged some extra fees every year (50+). Changed the membership price on people too without notice.

Please avoid this gym!!! Terrible gym, all they care about is money. I cancelled my membership bringing a written letter, and they took action 1 month later, making me pay another month. Also, they charged my account two times in one month, in total they took like $200 in one month. I tried reaching out the manager several times and he wouldn't respond to anything. The front desk left him notes and letters from me, because he was never at the gym (gym manager Joe) and I needed to get the refund, even the front desk would leave him notes about that, he never reached out! Scammers. Please don't sign up at this gym!

Avoid this place at all costs. I came in to cancel my membership with a signed letter. The manager simply said 'its taken care of', but this was not the case. I was charged for another month of membership and my membership was still active. I had to call corporate and was finally able to get the account cancelled. Deceitful and shady business practices STAY AWAY. They also bribe customers to submit a good review in order to cover up the negative reviews. You can see signs around the facility that advertise this.

Wish I could rate 0 stars, literally the worst gym ever. They told me in April they had issues finding my membership, I showed them my credit card app where the payments come out of and he told me he will fix it or have a manager fix it, today they said the same thing again which takes time out of my workout n is also frustrating bc one goes to the gym to relax not to deal w their clerical errors, I was finally fed up n told them I wish to cancel my membership and I was told I have to write a letter to their corporate office when their website states you can cancel at the gym where u signed up, on top of that we will have to bring our own cleaning supplies to work out during Covid bc they were always out of paper towels or the watered down cleaning solution they offer, no social distancing whatsoever and will allow guests to walk freely without a mask. Gym is always packed, no accessories like handles for their equipment, at least 8 machines out of service and I can go on about what’s wrong with these place. Do yourself a favor and don’t sign up for their membership7/12 update: they haven’t cancelled my membership even tho I talked to a rep in the lobby (Joe) who gave me their P.O. Box address to mail a letter which I did, they are now saying they need the letter to be thru certified mail which the the post office said they can’t do for po boxes, I’m now being charged another month plus a service fee plus a late fee totaling $57. Seriously no way to get out of this, I already signed up for another gym and I’m paying for a service I won’t use. Membership impossible to cancel, please be aware!
