I strongly encourage anyone reading this review to take your business elsewhere. There is a reason 9 out of 10 recent reviews as of the time of writing this are 1 stars.I moved out of the area in December 2021 due to a fire at my apartment. I was told that I could freeze my membership free of charge but would have to call in every 3 months to reup. First three months went without charges then I called up to continue freezing my account. The associate I spoke with said they would take care of it. The next month I noticed my account was being charged full price. I called the Irving Park gym to inquire only to find out that the request was never put into the system. I was told to call ABC fitness solutions for a refund. ABC fitness solutions let me know that they could not issue refunds on the call and to call the club back for a refund. The manager on duty let me know that I would have to speak to another manager for a refund. I elevated to that manager (Harold) via email and then later on a phone call. He assured me I would receive a refund in the coming days. I have never received that refund.Furthermore, the gym cancellation policy is problematic. There is no reason in 2022 that the only way to cancel your membership is by sending a letter via mail to a corporate PO box. Making the cancellation process intentionally difficult for customers may not be illegal but it is morally bankrupt.

This gym is nasty! My husband had a membership here and I would tag a long from time to time. I was amazed at how dirty this place was, and my husband was paying somewhere between $35-50 a month to go here! I wish I had taken pictures, but the walls have dirt and dust all on them and so does the equipment. You can just tell they never wipe any of this stuff down. And the equipment looks outdated. It’s just definitely not worth the price. Seriously the dirtiest gym I’ve ever been to. I would not recommend it

Update 04/22/2022: After I dropped off a copy of cancellation letter at the gym in person (because they couldn't find the letter I gave them since last year). The manager Nancy reached out to me and assisted me regarding the issue I had. Thank you for your assistance, Nancy. This place is so terrible and I wish I could give them negative star or nothing. I wanted to cancel my membership last year (around January 2021). So, I contacted them. I tried to reach out to them and asked for a manager several times. Only the manager can assist me to resolve this issue (according to the staff informed me) but the manager NEVER AVAILABLE to talk with me though! They told me they will take my contact info and have their manager call me back. That NEVER happened!!!! Again, they told me to write a letter for cancellation. So I did that and went there just give it to them in person. They still charged me for one more month, when I called them asking about this charge, they said it's for cancellation fee. Since then, I never get charged again and thought my membership was cancelled until now (March 2022). I got charged on my bank account which I didn't even authorize it. Of course, reaching out to Retro Fitness and they said my account was freeze. But how that happened??? I wanted to CANCEL my membership, not freezing it. On my letter stated it clearly that "I want to cancel my membership". And of course the manager wasn't available at this time again. One of the staff member took my contact info and saying that she will have the manager call me. This is so very unhelpful when it comes to people's money. All I need is please just CANCEL my membership.

25 years of working out in the gym at the top rated gym. Retro Fitness by far has the best equipment than any gym I’ve ever been to, Harold the manager is awesome and willing to help and train anyone to reach their goals, genuinely a great guy who cares about peoples fitnessIf you were looking for a place to work out they definitely have the best state of the art equipment, they also have free tanning and massage bed included. Prices are extremely affordableI can almost guarantee you get there 3 day pass and you’ll be very impressed and want to join the gym

I typically don’t leave reviews but I am floored by my experience with this gym. Three months ago I dropped off a cancellation in PERSON, Only to learn two months later that my membership is still active! I was not charged for the month following the cancellation which led me to believe that all was fine, but here we are. I have called multiple times and now live out of state and was told they would do me a favor and put my account on hold…. HOLD? I literally canceled it so that should have been the solution offered. Like other reviews, they are stating that they don’t have a record on file of my letter. It’s not the money but the principal. I did my part as a member for over a year in paying and canceling per my contract. It’s a shame there is a gap on their end…. Would not recommend bc of that amongst other things like their kids club rarely being staffed during the hours offered…it’s definitely put horrible taste in my mouth about Retro Fitness Gyms

Keep in mind. This is my first 1 star review ever. I only do 5 stars or no review at all. I been trying to cancel my membership of 3 people for over 8 months. Before signing up for this gym please beware. I been trying to cancel my membership for 10 months. 10 months. The rule is, the person has to come in with a letter in a envelope with the names of the account, and gym card number. I did that 3 times. I don't live in the area no more. It takes me more then a hour to travel to that gym. Still never canceled. I believe it's a scam. I've called more then 30 times. Not 1 time was a manager there. They say the same thing. A manager will call back. A manager has never called back. Going on 10 months. Each time I went up there. A Manager wasn't present. This operation is the worst I've ever seeing. I might have to sue. I'm more then reasonable I believe. 10 months. 8 months I've been charged 960. That's Damm near a 1000 dollars. Today I called for the last time. And the worker had the audacity to say I was raising my voice. I didn't curse once, I didn't say anything disrespectful. Yes I'm feed up. There was no manager present again. But I've been nothing but understanding. I just can't believe a company can be this incompetent. Worst experience I've ever had in my 30 years of life. Please everyone read this before signing up. This is a sad story, but it is all fact.

I would not recommend this gym until it gets new management. The manager (Harold Coleman) is a con artist! Tricks people into buying the ultimate membership package when the hydromassage bed hasn't even been working for the past year. Not only that he also refuses to cancel peoples membership to keep his numbers up. I know this because I used to work the front desk, Coleman would just toss the cancellation letters from members aside so they can keep getting charged. His trick was to say that there's no proof that there was ever a letter turned in because it wasn't certified. Coleman would avoid calls from upset customers at all costs to prevent their memberships from being cancelled. Coleman does nothing but play games on his phone and abuse his power my making the staff do everything in the gym for him, he also made a few write fake 5star reviews for the gym how sad.

Do not get a membership here. They will take your money and lie to you about what you are purchasing. I paid for a full year membership in advance and after paying $400 they charged $400 again a month later. After calling ABC Financial they informed me that Retro had set me up with a 34 month membership at $400 per month. Speaking to customer service is a joke and the employees here do not care. Honestly feels like a scam is happening here. They are not accredited on the Better Business Bureau and also have a failing grade on it. Do not get a membership here.

This gym and corporation is run by the worst people. Extremely predatory business practices that charge you after you cancel because you didn’t jump through the hoops for cancellation. You can bet they won’t tell you what those are until you directly ask. I had to dispute the payments with my credit card company to get my money back and put an end to it.There’s also a guy working there that cannot stop checking out all of the girls. I’m not the only one who noticed this pervert…be careful if you’re there at a less crowded time.Edit: Thanks for the generic reply and half-hearted attempt to show others you care! Clowns :)
