I received an email from the Iowa City Senior Center with information about the Rock Steady Boxing scholarships available through the Parkinson’s Foundation grant. I had no idea what to expect. I had never even watched a boxing match before. It’s really inspiring that I can look around and see the progress that other new Rock Steady Boxers have made in just the few months that they’ve been there. I have also felt encouraged by other Rock Steady Boxers who have also told me that they’ve seen progress in me in the short amount of time I’ve been here. It really impressed me how we are included in the gym's other activities and the camaraderie I’ve experienced has really made me feel included. The program just checks all the boxes for me.I’m really just super impressed by the whole thing and don’t have enough good things to say about it."

An absolutely phenomenal place to train. Coach Cliff is knowledgeable, articulate, and a masterful motivator. The environment at ICOR is both welcoming (not a mean person in the gym) and intense. I had the privilege to train there during summer 2022, and by the end of four months I felt like I was carved out of hardwood. Proud to carry the ICOR name with me overseas.

Me and my son love ICOR. For me I get some of he best workouts while also learning boxing skills. My son is in the little pups class and loves going every Saturday! We definitely love being members and would encourage anyone who’s interested in the sport or wants to learn to join! Awesome atmosphere!

We attend Rock Steady Boxing at ICOR Boxing in Iowa City. The facility is fantastic and Coaches Clif and Emily are great and are very encouraging. It is a wonderful environment for people with Parkinson's Disease to gather and "knock out PD".

Iowa City's ICOR Boxing is a premier boxing experience for all skill levels. Whether practicing under the guidance of the coaches, or in solitude with the vast array of equipment, one feels no shortage of opportunity, and may learn from a steady delivery of knowledge which is as adept as it is communicative. At this gym there is no shortage of friendliness, and no hint of judgement. 5 stars, would recommend!

I've had only good experiences with ICOR during the time I've been there. Clif and Emily are great teachers and make sure that you're pushing yourself while also having a good time. I especially recommend choosing ICOR if you're a complete beginner to boxing- I came in with no experience with combat sports and have gained so much in terms of technique/conditioning in just 3 months.

ICOR has excellent facilities, Clif and Emily are coaches that care; really know the sport of boxing and teach great sportsmanship. They also support the community and underprivileged as well as help people with Parkinson's to enjoy a higher quality of life with their non-profit programs.

I joined ICOR four months ago. I am in my early 40s, and was looking for an inclusive environment to get my fitness back on track. ICOR has the typical facilities and equipment that you would expect from a boxing club, and it is all in a good state of maintenance and well cared for. However, the facilities and equipment are not what make ICOR stand out.The staff and members of ICOR genuinely care about each other. I have never belonged to a gym or club where the coaches and members care as much about your life outside the gym as they do about your time inside the gym. The coaches, Cliff and Emily, go beyond the role of simply coaching proper form, technique, etc., to ensure that members are having their needs met outside of the gym. I have also seen this level of care among the members, where the values of the coaches and staff that has been taught to the members is often seen continuing among the members.Lastly, and this is a bit personal and subjective, I admire the family nature of ICOR. As someone who has kids of my own, I understand how demanding family life can be. Balancing running a business with having young children is something that I believe deserves respect. The coaches' kids can frequently be seen around the club, and for me its like being right at home. Some people might find it inconvenient or distracting, but I find it reassuring to know that the people I have entrusted my training to can understand the pressures and demands that I experience as a parent. A family operated business isn't the training environment everyone wants or needs, but it's perfect for me.

I can’t begin to say how impressed I am by what Clif and Emily do here, and do with enormous knowledge and with the biggest of hearts. They enrich the lives of everyone who walks in to ICOR, be it someone in search of simply a great gym or someone wanting to be part of a boxing community (be it lessons at any level, conditioning, competition if desired, etc.). They also offer classes for men and women 50 and up, kids of all ages, and Rock Steady Boxing (part of a national program) for people with Parkinson’s. ICOR sees itself as part of the Iowa City community and engages with it wherever possible. As I started out saying, ICOR enriches lives — physically and emotionally.
