I was asked to attend the level 1 woman’s self defense class with a friend and LOVED every second of it. The trainers/instructors were above and beyond helpful and serious with some fun! I am looking forward to my next class and can’t wait to learn more about self defense, as it’s a ever evolving thing! Highly recommend.

There is "mma", and there is MMA! With the explosion in the popularity of Mixed Martial Arts, innumerable gyms are attempting to meet the demand by offering "mma". It is relatively easy to offer "mma" classes to people who do not truly understand MMA.MMA combines the most effective techniques from the most valid martial arts. With respect, there are many "martial arts" that are NOT truly effective martial arts. In no particular order, the most valid techniques used in MMA derive from Tae Kwon Do, Muay Thai, Boxing, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Judo, and Wrestling. For a Coach to be excellent in one, is uncommon. To be excellent in 2 or 3 is even more uncommon. To be a fighter in the UFC means you are one of the best MMA fighters in the world.Amir Khillah has been a fighter in a number of UFC fights, and has trained with and under many of the Legends of MMA (Jeremy Horn, Matt Hughes, etc.). His knowledge of striking and Jiu Jitsu is exceptional for any coach, and is exceeded by his ability to break down techniques to effectively teach them,.Then, even more importantly, Amir is able to demonstrate the blending of, and transitions-to, striking and ground fighting.Lightening Kicks, and Amir Khillah, is truly Michigan's location to learn and trainMMA.

This is my first martial arts experience and I think I found a great place! I signed my child up for karate and myself for Brazilian jiu jitsu and we both absolutely love it. I hesitated starting something for years, finally pulled the trigger and never looked back.Stop hesitating and start something!

AMAZING instructors all the way around, James is super thorough and makes SURE you know every step of whatever move your working on, treats everyone equally with the same respect and has more knowledge than I think he knows what to do with lol! I knew from the moment I signed up that the ONLY thing I regretted, was not joining lightening kicks sooner than I did, you are truly FAMILY when you walk through those doors, whatever skill level you have is fine because you can jump right in, so if you’re hesitant, don’t be, because I promise it’ll hurt you more to not go, this is something I’ve been looking for my whole life, and at 23 I feel like I’m a new person, it’s so much more than physical knowledge, it works on your mental health aswell, giving you confidence in every different aspect of your life, as soon as class ends I get a lump in my throat bc I just want to come back and learn, it’s definitely an obsession like no other, thank you lightening kicks, for helping me find my true self
