The Student Recreation Center at Western Michigan University offers an array of fitness and recreational facilities. Conveniently located on the first floor, the center boasts various amenities well-maintained for students and faculty. The gym features a diverse range of equipment and hosts fitness classes like F45, known for their intensity and experienced coaches. However, access is limited to those with student or faculty accompaniment, and there's a fee of $8 for guests.

While many find the center modern and versatile, some equipment needs updates, and the weight room's size does not meet the demands of the student population. Olympic weightlifting is not allowed, which may inconvenience some athletes. The facility can get crowded during peak hours, particularly in the afternoons and evenings.

Pros:

  • Modern and well-maintained facilities
  • Diverse range of equipment
  • Intense fitness classes like F45
  • Experienced and motivating coaches
  • Clean locker rooms
  • Helpful and friendly staff
  • Convenient location within the University
  • Wide variety of activities available
  • Less crowded during mornings
  • Access to students and faculty

Cons:

  • Weight room is small
  • Some equipment needs upgrades
  • No Olympic weightlifting allowed

It is a complete and beautiful center. The facility is well maintained. I particularly like the gym. There's plenty to do here. But you can only have access to the facility if you go with a student or faculty member - admission is $8

Great place to work out! Some of the facilities are definitely due for upgrades, but overall great facilities!

Some of the equipment is pretty run down. They function fine, but the material covering the seats and other areas that touch your skin are cracked and can scratch you up. Needs a little refresher.

As a WMU student it’s small. The overall center is big but the weight room is very small. Needs more equipment, machines, and a bigger space for all WMU students.

Great venue for sports, but they could provide on a more user-friendly entrance than the staircase obstacle course.

It’s pretty nice, but as a University I’d expect a bigger gym. (More equipment, bigger area) 20k+ students and a small gym don’t make sense.

I go mainly for the classes. F45 is my favorite. Very intense! Great coaches pushing you through! Clean locker rooms.

Great gym. plenty of equipment in a clean facility. Staff are helpful and friendly. It gets busy in the afternoon and evening but not in the morning.

Well aware after 3 weeks Olympic weightlifting isn’t allowed but only stopped handful of times. Luckily Olympic weightlifters is a niche enough group so no one else will have a problem like me. Awesome
