I started about three weeks ago and can't say enought about how great the staff are with explaining things, showing modifications, and making sure that you have fun while you are there!

In my mid 30s, at 52.7% body fat, with a family history of diabetes, and a baby on the way, I had decided it was time to try and find some sort of fitness activity that interested me enough that I might stick with it long-term.I landed on kickboxing, and started looking online at potential places to train at and their reviews. There were multiple kickboxing studios that followed the same 'formula': group classes with pre-defined class times, with one instructor in a room full of many students on a heavy bag. These seemed reasonable. Then 9Round stood out as the antithesis of those. Individual training that you could start whenever you showed up (provided there isn't anyone already waiting to jump in at a round to start), with multiple trainers to focus on no more than 9 students at a time, with different equipment at each round.I liked that there was a variety of equipment allowing for a wider array of movements and exercises. I wasn't sure about the whole semi-private training thing. At least in a regular kickboxing class, I could just try and hide in the back so no one, especially the instructor, could see how much I sucked or how out of shape I was. You can't hide from the trainers at 9Round. Sometimes you're the only trainee there at the time, and then all of a sudden you might have both trainers watching you.Sometimes some trainers will come in during their off hours to do their own personal workouts and there will be 3 or 4 trainers technically there at a time. I imagine to someone new reading this review, this might conjure an image in your mind of a pod of hungry sharks circling you.In the end my curiosity over the 'odd man out' kickboxing studio won out and I scheduled my first workout. And while I did find the trainers to be sharks there, in that they're fit, focused, and strong individuals, they're not there to eat you. They're there to teach and encourage you to become one yourself. That was back in June. And since then, except for a few weeks after emergency surgery, I've been coming 3 times a week, every week. The longer I've been going consistently, the more I notice that I can do things now that I hadn't been able to do before. I can walk up a flight of stairs without having to pause for a breath somewhere in the middle and god only knows how many years its been since that used to be the norm. And I'm not promising that the same experience will happen to you too. Maybe punching and kicking things isn't your thing. But maybe it IS and you won't know until you try it and since the first lesson here is free, what do you have to lose? Tell them Basher sent you.
