I've been lucky enough to train at CTA a few times so far. Great mat space - open room without obstacles to maneuver around. Nice tatami style tile mats on top of a floating floor. Everything is always clean and disinfected. The culture is very welcoming and everyone is friendly. The head instructor Charles has years of high level competitive experience that brings a unique and realistic point of view to his teaching. I get great instruction and some tough/challenging rolls at this gym. I'd recommend CTA Lawrence and I look forward to going back there soon!

I dropped in for one of their open mat training sessions on Friday evenings at 6:30. I know that some of their guys were out of town, but everyone who showed up was a savage with solid techniques and a friendly vibe. They rolled hard, but their care was still evident, and we had a lot of fun pushing a good pace.They are also in the process of adding a huge new mat space. By far the best place in Lawrence for jiu-jitsu.

My daughters (8,6)have now been going to CTA for 1 year! They have become confident, and badass young ladies! I'm so glad I found CTA! It's been so amazing that I have decided to join myself. Mind you, I'm super out of shape but that doesn't matter. Charlie and the other instructors are amazing and truly know their stuff! I have only been going when I am able to but I have already learned so much and I have truly fallen in love with Brazilian Jiu-jitsu!Let's just say my 2 youngest kids will be joining as well and who knows maybe my husband will get in there 🤗.I can't wait to see how far my girls go and I can't wait to see where I am in a year! Thank you Charlie for being a great instructor and making this more than affordable for big families like mine!🤞🏼

Charlie runs an amazing school with amazing students everyone is very nice and welcoming. The gym is also new and big with plenty of space for new students. I’m a new white belt and kinda small but I never got injured or hurt. So many nice people if you can go do yourself the favor and do it.

The very first day I came to CTA Lawrence I was shocked at how welcome the instructors and students made me feel. Charlie, the head instructor, made sure to work with me and focus his attention to a student he had never spoken to before. He, along with the other instructors, build students' confidence through outstanding teaching, and on such a high level you can't help but improve. The other students/instructors are also super helpful, everyone in the gym trains hard and focuses intently on using great technique while getting after it, which is a difficult balance to find in the area. One of the greatest things about training there are the emotional and social intelligence of all the instructors. They all treat you with respect, make sure that nobody who walks in the gym is being left behind, and they consistently bringing assistance when it's needed and a pat on the back when deserved. The head instructors also encourage cross training because they aren't insecure or afraid of their students checking out other schools, which is a big sign of fairness and confidence in the way they do things. All these things coupled with the facts that the caliber of instruction is out of this world, has been tested, and clearly works in the highest levels of BJJ competitions makes this place a one of a kind place to train. You get a phenomenal workout, increase your potentials for success on and off the mat, and leave knowing you made the right decision by coming into train. Regardless of if you're a competitor, general practitioner, or complete newbie, CTA Lawrence is by far the best option you'll find.

Tried BJJ for the first time! The instructor and athletes were so welcoming. They had no problem teaching me, even though I had never done anything like this before. They helped me during the warm-up and while we were all learning skills. They even tried to convince me to join the free-style time when you can practice any moves, but I decided to sit out. I enjoyed watching them learn from each other. It was great!! Would highly recommend!

I absolutely recommend for anyone in the Lawrence, KS vicinity. The head instructor pours his heart and soul into every lesson taught and has a sincere passion for the sport, being a very active competitor himself. Other instructors are also brought in regularly to add to the depth and diversity of training. The membership fee is set to make lessons completely affordable and make Jiu-Jitsu available for everyone. It has a very welcoming environment for new students and those who are seasoned practitioners of the sport. By far the best gym in that area.
