OmTree at Sunflower

I took a class with the owner, Sharyn, when she was still at Vibe. Anytime I’d modify a poses for my medical history the instructor would critique and use me as a model for what not to do, which felt very humiliating. I don’t owe my medical history to anyone but I ended up mentioning it to the class so the instructor would lay off me, which didn’t help.The class wasn’t an inclusive or welcoming environment at all. The instructor didn’t say hi when I came in- she looked my body up and down in a judgmental way and asked “how long have you been practicing?” I went through a 200hr yoga teacher training and mentioned that. The instructor then proceeded to say things through the class like “when you teach someday here’s what you can do” in a very condescending and belittling way, which also felt humiliating. The practice felt superficial only, not spiritual and didn’t show yoga ethics.I walked into class needing some emotional peace and left in an emotional breakdown. I would not recommend a class with this instructor.In response to the owners response: I’m not currently teaching yoga, nor was I at the time of this class. I don’t live in Kansas anymore. But during my year in Lawrence I taught at a gym where people mostly come for other amenities- and so I didn’t view you as a competitor and my review wasn’t intended to be as one.I’ve never received feedback aligning with this perspective, but apologize if you (or the one other person in class) was not comfortable having me as a student. Talking with a class (so in this case one student) about someone else’s practice feels unprofessional and immoral, and aligns with my feelings on this not being a welcoming environment.

I have been to too many yoga places here at KC and after OMTree Shala (which is the first yoga studio I have ever been to) nothing impress me more. I wish I was closer, I miss the friendly environment and all the good vibes this place has been blessed with. I know I waited too long to rate them, but I always felt I owed it to them. I recommend this place 100%. The instructors and the other students are amazing! So far the most friendly environment ever. 👍

This studio is bright and beautiful! The music and lighting is always appropriate for the type of class and time of day which is a detail that the body can understand more than the mind. The knowledge of the OmTree teachers is so deep and honestly delivered. I appreciate the constant reminder that this is an internal practice even though we are in a room full of other yogis. I always feel the space full of compassion and wisdom. The roots of this studio are deepening themselves more and more into the community! It’s so sweet to be a part of!

My favorite place to do yoga! Great teachers, beautiful bright & peaceful space. The way the classes are taught really help encourage you and have helped me discover a side of yoga I hadn't had the joy of experiencing before. Highly recommend Om Tree studio.
