Good bouldering location with plenty of interesting problems to solve. Not much in the way of top rope or belay. A day pass is pretty pricey, the monthly membership is much more worth it if you're going frequently. Gets very crowded during peak hours. The Google maps location is bit confusing, parking it on the street but you have to walk through a entry area to get to the gym. Just follow the people with the chalk bags!

Medvis has a really rude condescending attitude problem but aside from that the gym is pretty good. Some trainers are much better than others.

I work at Touchstone. Today I took a field trip to our sister company, mainly to get milage on thin cracks. Really like the finger crack set, and 3 flaring crack that mimic granite / sandstone stuff on the west coast. Bathrooms were nice. Top out section is pretty cool, parking is interesting but not atypical of LA. General nice utilization of space. Staff is pretty good. Community seemed to be East Siders. Nice to see the self defense and intro to trad anchor classes. Would be cool if we had that. The adjustable crack should be somewhere between BD 0.2-0.5, or 3-5, as the permacracks are already moderate sized. More finger crack sets!

The Stronghold Climbing Gym was home for me for one of the most transformative chapters of my life. It's where I started getting strong again after years of struggling with an autoimmune disease that kept me bedridden. It’s where I met and fell in love with Garrett Lockhart, known to the masses as i_o, who passed away November 23, 2020.He fell in love with me first, and never told me. I danced ballet on the concrete floor, celebrating being able to move again and partake in life. I helped him find his apt when his lease was up. Then I went to Paris, got a concussion, and my health took a turn for the worse. Whenever I could, I came climbing at Stronghold. And whenever we could, Garrett and I would talk for hours. On the mats under the holds, at the tables at the entrance to the gym. He would sit there and write music that hundreds of thousands of people then danced to. He was going to quit DJing to marry me. I just found out.During the pandemic after G died, Kate and Peter let me come say goodbye to him at the gym. That’s where 95% of our embodied relationship was. So last month, when I found out for the first time that he was as in love with me as I was with him, that he wrote all his music about me, that he called me the Sun in all his songs, and referenced the gym, I had a simple request, and never in my entire life would have imagined what transpired instead.I asked the new staff, who did not know Garrett, if they would put on a song he wrote about me. I explained what happened. I explained that I’m being a little mischievous and emotional because of the circumstances. And they said no.I felt very strongly that Kate and Peter would never let this stand. They love Garrett. They said they would never forget him. Surely, they would let the person he loved most, through the speakers in the place he loved most, do the thing he loved to see most, in tribute. So in art and love protest, I refused to leave and asked to speak to Kate and Peter.Who showed up. To scream at me that they didn’t care who I was, and kicked me out.And banned me from the gym.So I did protest art. And they called the cops on me. And tried to get me banned from The Brewery. An artist community. I have an artist statement and religious freedom rights. They were unsuccessful. I showed the cops the sign for “I love you” And they showed me the sign for “God” which is basically a G on your heart. G is on my heart.Who has lost their North Star?We need to hold each other in grief and celebration of our loved ones. Not crunch on in hypercapitalism and ignore honoring the only things that matter in life. Othering me as a mentally ill person is the same mindset that allowed Garrett to ever leave this world. WAKE UP SHEEPLE! TAKE!I invite you to make protest art. I invite you to be crazy in love. I invite you to scream his name lest they forget it. PLEASE. DANCE. Please. Remember love. No Thing in Matter Is. #i_onietzche #GAPPYDDAYDEDJ #i_oofficialFeret. The Gall. Pop n Lock. Hard. Boobyah.ps the climbing is top notch i luv the auto belays staff cd be gayer tho

Not nearly as much climbing area as expected, bouldering is weak. Lots of auto belay routes, not my thing. Sorely disappointed.

The friendliest staff ever! It was my first time here so I took my lead climbing test then sent some very interesting overhanging stuff. The location is in a magical industrial area that reminds you of Gotham city. The gym has a great assortment of bouldering and rope climbing, moon boards, a sauna and it's all very clean.

This is one of the friendliest gyms I have ever been to and I have been to many. The people at the front desk are super friendly and they are inviting and very patient. They have a great selection of shoes for sale and in fact I got a pair for $50 because there were some discounts today. They're climbing setters will set new problems every Monday in the bouldering area which is really fun. It's a good mix of crowds. Sometimes there's a lot of kids there which can be a little bit hard because they are like machines and they can go back to back without any brakes. But it's really fun watching them. There are some hardcore climbers there of course which is great to watch but there are also people at many different levels so it feels really nice and inviting to be there and talk to different people. Very easy to make friends there. And they have a great seating area to just lounge and you can be on your laptop. And they have an outside area for sitting as well. Whoever owns this gym I think has given a lot of thought to making the place more of a community and less just for profits. I buy a monthly pass which is around $130 and with that I get one guest pass per month. I think this is an incredible price for this gym.

As of Jan 2019 - Nice gym, good variety of bouldering and top rope/lead climbs. Also good workout area and amenities. Daily pass is $25. Monthly fee is $80+, and there's normally a $75 initiation fee. Seems a bit high for a single local gym, but it's a good climbing community.
