Our kiddo is loving her karate education at Chip Wright's! She feels seen, included, and cared for. The instructors are dedicated, motivated, and truly intend to be the best at what they offer. We're so glad to be in the school!

This school has a spirit of excellence that is tough to beat. Our family has been involved for over 16 years with this school, at all levels. My kids learned discipline, self-control and perseverance. Definitely recommend!

“How much is it worth to you to have your kids grow in respect, integrity, self control and focus? How much would you pay for that?”... this is literally what my husband asked me as we got ready for our second week at ChipWright’s gym, saw what they were learning in class and were strongly considering membership for 3 of our kids. My answer was- “yeah, it’s worth a LOT to me.” Luckily we aren’t actually paying a high fee because the prices are reasonable and they have multi- kid discounts- yay! But I can’t believe how much myBoys have already benefited from the classes! While they are gaining strength, skills and endurance for sure, the biggest surprise for me are those intangible results like a better understanding of respect, integrity, good sportsmanship, etc. I had one son who often quit at home if he wasn’t winning, but not in Mrs. Dutra’s class! She emphasizes having a cheerful face even if you get out in dodge ball and learning how to congratulate the winner. They teach so many important life skills beyond karate skills. Another son is growing in confidence and his ability to follow instructions and focus. My third son is gaining strength and endurance, while having a blast! I’m so grateful for the experiences we’ve had so far and I’m looking forward to being a part of this gym family for a long time!

From the minute we walked in the front door We were made to feel at home and our grandson is having the best time. Chip Wright was actually the first person to give our grandson instruction on how to do karate. They made sure that he had a really good fitting ghee, that he knew the customs and the rules of the dojo. He started at a white belt and soon earned a white stripe. He is doing a belt testing camp this weekend and he is so excited about it.We really like the instructors and the structure of the classes and we are thrilled with our grandson's progress. If you have a child who has even a mild interest in karate or some other sport make sure that you invest in them by showing up for them and inviting them to show self-love, respect, dedication and determination.

Broke my shy, nervous little boy out of his shell after one class. He loves going to class and asks to go every day. The instructors are firm but caring. We love Chip’s!

Very unprofessional on all levels. Went to a tournament held there, and many of the judges were extremely biased. It was clear very early on that the tournament was just a way to give their own students medals. Standards for outsiders were not held for their own students. When an outsider barely nicked a junior black belt on the face, despite him appearing to be fine, the judges disqualified the outsider (video evidence taken shows their claims for disqualification were false), but when one of their students hit another of their students in the face so hard that they were nearly knocked out, and they had to be taken to the side to be iced while they were clearly out of it, the attacking student was not only allowed to continue, he was not given a warning and even ended up winning first place. When Chip Wright was approached about this matter by an instructor from another school, he became furious to the point that it was unprofessional, even yelling at the other instructor that he didn't care what the other instructor thought, because that's just how it was going to be. There were other times that biased judging was shown, to the point that at one match, several people were confused and muttering to each other about why the child who had been dominated the entire time was given first place. If you are looking for a school to train your children to defend themselves and become tough, this is not the place. Young black belts were coddled if they belonged to the school, and though there were exceptions, many of their students performed sub-par. Martial arts are supposed to help teach morals, standards, self-defense, etc. This was a very evident example of somewhere you will not find that. If you want a local tournament to participate in, look elsewhere if you are looking for impartial judges. The tournaments are poorly advertised to begin with so that it will mainly be their own students winning. Will not return to again.

I cannot day enough great things about Chip Wright and his staff. We signed my 4 year old son up because he had a speech impediment, one so bad that right before starting kindergarten, he completely shut down and stopped talking. He was so embarrassed and so angry that people couldn’t understand him, and it tore us apart. We signed up him hoping to give him a confidence boost. Karate has done more for him in 6 months than a year of speech therapy has. The instructors are all very kind, but very firm. They not only teach karate but they demand respect for others. My son came out of his shell and when he executes the moves he SHOUTS them. He loves it. Mr. Wright himself always has time for the parents’ questions and concerns. There are a lot of different level classes to sign up for, and there are always fun activities like parents night out Nerf gun wars, summer camps, game nights, etc. Not only are they one of the oldest and most respected places in town, but I did call around and they’re also one of the most affordable. It’s been worth every penny, and I recommend them to anyone looking for a place to start karate!
