This gym is ram by Larissa who’s the wife of the Checkmat Temecula owner. These two gyms are family ran.My wife and I moved from Florida to California last year in May 2022 due to a family medical illness. We had a very tight group in our last gym in Florida and our entire family has been training there for years. When we moved to California, we were looking for a gym that was family own, small, and has a good family culture where I would feel safe and comfortable having my entire family train there. After trialing a couple gyms, my wife stumbled upon this gym before they transitioned to the new gym and we did the trial period. We automatically loved the owners, Helio and Larissa, and felt the genuine and humbleness from them. The students at the gym were all very welcoming towards us. They listen to your story and work with you during your journey in jui jitsu. I can say in my honest opinion that I very much love this gym and I’m grateful I found it. They are a small gym (Temecula and French Valley) and they have a huge potential to expand in many areas. Currently, my wife and I are still training there. Unfortunately, my oldest son decided not to continue with this journey but my youngest will be starting next month. My youngest son struggles with his gross motor skills. Jui jitsu is a great additional therapy to create discipline, confidence, gain strength, and work on his motor skills. They have kids classes in both gyms so you have more options for training. If you decide to train here, just know that you will become part of the family once you commit. It’s definitely a decision I do not regret making and it keeps my wife and I sane by getting our exercise in and surrounding ourselves with great people. The French Valley location emphasizes more in women’s self defense and women’s jui jitsu classes. You can train in either one you that you prefer.

We enrolled our 8 yr/old son in the kids class. He was so nervous in the beginning. Not only were the coaches accommodating and helpful, but the other kids are taught to be kind an gentle and everyone helped our son feel less shy.Now, he LOVES it and is excited for every class! The coaches work so well with kids.

AMAZING STUDIO/DOJO environment to start your Jiu-Jitsu journey, no matter you age or fitness level!!! The professors and Coaching staff are amazing and accommodating to all of their students individual needs.
