The new renovations (now finished) are so nice! Definitely very spacious. It was rough in the interim but the finished product is worth it.

As other members have commented, this used to be literally the best gym/workout facility in middle Tn. It wasn’t even close. It WAS Excellent. The new remodel is actually a significant step backwards. What have the added?1.They have added a stair case and family locker with open viewing class walls.2. More cardio equipment.DowngradesThe old cross fit room was big and spacious the new is tiny and cramped. They haven’t added anything new that upgrades the members experience for working out.Additionally the lighting and color scheme is like that of mental hospital. And finally as so many people have pointed out the coup de grace to Green Hill YMCA was moving the sauna out the locker rooms and into the pool area. What a shame. It was what so many members came for alone. It was a great experience and first class sauna. The new sauna is really just a joke, the construction is laughable. It’s worse the shoddily built.Green Hill Ymca had a opportunity to really reassert themselves as the best gym and ymca in middle Tn, but they butchered it to be honest.

BRING BACK THE SAUNA! This place was a 5 star facility but the decision to close the men’s sauna—against the objections of nearly every person who used it—was a horrible decision. It showed the Middle TN YMCA is not listening to its members. Moreover, the sauna replacing it is smaller, co-ed, and 20 degrees cooler than the men’s sauna closed (see photos of 170 for new vs 190 for old). At 160-170 it will take over twice as long to get equivalent effects to what you could get at 190. Further, the social element and comfort of not worrying as much about dress (think stretching in bathing suits) is undercut. As such, this was a very bad decision accompanying the remodel. Why would you replace a ten speed with a trike? This is what they have done. The MT Y could restore faith in their decision making if they pull the plug on this and keep the men’s sauna.

This used to be one of the best YMCA's I'd ever been too until this recent update. The construction alone was horrid to endure but I figured when they were done it would be worth it. Now that they are close to completion I feel as though I can accurately say: they have only succeeded in making my experience worse while raising my rates. It's pretty much the same equipment, with basically the same layout, only with a new floor and staircase... oh and a "Family locker room" that fails to provide an adequate amount of space for the large cohort of guests.and they took the best part of the workout, the sauna, and managed to ruin it. The "new" sauna/steamroom are straight TRASH. I am not sure the people who installed it have ever installed a sauna before. The doors don't close fully and there are giant cracks between the frame and the door. And it's half the size for twice the people now...Plenty of us expressed concern over their decisions to make these changes and they decided it wasn't in their best interest to listen to their consumers.OLD REVIEW: The individuals who work here are always super friendly, helpful and engaging. The equipment is generally in great working order and the locker rooms are always clean. Not sure I can ask more of a gym than that. Plus, the fact that the sauna exists is enough reason for me to enjoy this gym alone.

Used to be the best gym in town. You are going to lose a lot of members because of the closure of the men's locker room steam/sauna. I get that the Y is trying to move past the Sunday steam room hook-up stories, but that hasn't been an issue since the 90s. The replacement steam/sauna are laughably inadequate. They can fit like 4 people comfortably and are a long walk from the adult locker rooms. The steam/sauna rooms in the adult locker rooms are still there, bring those back and make your members happy. Otherwise, people are going to start seeking other options

I am an active member at the YMCA, I Cannot be more disappointed with the sauna and steam room set up. The Sauna and steam rooms do not meet the expectation of its members. it is not adequate for the influx of people who desire to use it. The new workout areas are hardly big enough to handle the influx of people from the Downtown YMCA closing. Bringing back the old sauna's in the men's and woman's locker rooms would be a great place to start.

I have been going to the YMCA for almost 6 years. This gym used to be my favorite. Lots of space to enable any kind of workout. The cross fit room was great. Plenty of squat racks in front of mirrors. Both floors were bright due to the windows. I went for the first time since their renovations and man was I disappointed. I do understand that they only have one floor but wow. Why have more than half your space filled with cardio machines. This leads to EXTREMELY TIGHT spaces for lifting and free weights. Also it is very dark and not well ventilated. There are pretty much no mirrors around the free weight areas except one small spot with 3 benches. One of my other issues is the “squat/CrossFit” room, I am not sure what the theme of this room is. First off why put the squat racks facing each other. How do you work on form if you are looking straight at another person trying to lift as well. This makes zero sense. There are barely any mirrors in that room. At least the other gym has mirrors in front of the squat racks. Also why only have two racks with the lifting floor but the other sides do not? Then throw in a 6x4 patch of turf for what? This room is so poorly designed. Honestly I had to give a star because you can’t give zero but I would give one only because the outside area is great is you are doing actual CrossFit workouts.

NO DAY GUEST PASSES. In from Chicago and all excited to work out here, but were turned away. The first ever YMCA to turn away a guest. And this is a “Christian” organization? They better change their name.

They don’t let people use the gym for a day pass….not even for a fee!!! That’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard. I’m traveling on the road to the NC and want to let off some steam from all this driving and they won’t let me use their facility unless I join as a member. RIDICULOUS!!! Terrible way to do business

I love this Y! After five decades I'm back as a member. Great staff and plenty of room anytime I'm there.FYI: I worked here as a youth, and my father, Robert W. Henderson, Sr. was the first Chairman of the Board pictured here.
